Biography:

Declan was what one might have called a normal, happy little boy. He was showing promise in school, not only in academics, but he had the teachers wrapped around his little finger. The children at school adored the boy who knew exactly what to say. He liked the positive attention that he got and even started to play a bit of piano at an early age. He found not only happiness in the attention but, also in just playing the instrument. Years later, he realized his passion.

Unfortunately, that attention wasn’t only drawn from students and teachers. On lookers also were effected by the young boy’s charm and wit. One couple just had to have him for themselves. They wanted to have the perfect child. One day, while his parents were distracted from the kids, Declan was kidnapped.

The couple took him to a very large farm out in the middle of nowhere and placed a homemade shock collar around his neck. Every time he tried to escape the collar would go off and the shock from the collar would knock him out, only to have the male kidnapper find him and punish him. Declan suffered through ten years of what they called “corporal punishment”, but what Declan preferred to call torture. He was forced to do farm work ranging from killing animals, to plowing the lands and cleaning up the house and basement that he lived in.

Eventually, everything that was happening to not just Declan but the rest of the kids came to a peak, and Declan and his friends decided once again to stand up together and fight for their freedom. They all attacked the male kidnapper but, in the process, Declan lost his only two friends. The father figure tried to drown Declan, and as his friend muttered some ritual he heard from his father growing up, Declan died. Something in him awakened in that barrel, and a force emitted from him knocking the man away from him.

He ended up killing the father figure but not before beating the man viciously. He found strength in what he had done and he went on to do the same to the female kidnapper.

Not knowing where to go, Declan began to walk off. Someone (Declan can’t recall who) called the police after they saw the man walking down the road with blood drenched all over him. He was taken to the police station and after connecting the dots from the stories of the people who had been imprisoned, the police charged him with two murder charges. However, by some grace of the justice system, Declan was able to walk away with a slap of the wrist and a mandatory term in an institution to treat his schizophrenia, PTSD, and general depression.

After getting out of the institution, Declan had nothing but a high school degree under his belt to say for everything that he went through. He tried over and over again to get jobs, but everyone didn’t like the, ‘crazy’ look that they said that he had. His addiction to alcohol didn’t make it any easier for potential employers to take him all that seriously too.

Eventually, he stole some seeds from some farmers and began to farm on some land that he knew was abandoned. He made a small place there for himself. He made a terribly made shack, grew his own food, and sold some of his produce so he could buy alcohol.

One day he was discovered by a wealthy man looking for land to build his new home on. At first the man started to swat Declan off, before he noticed how incredible the plants were despite the ground not being that great for growing the plants. Then the man invited Declan into his home and began to ask him about what he had done.

Eventually, the man realized there was something dark but incredibly intelligent behind Declan’s eyes, and decided that he was going to do something about it. He took Declan in on the account that he basically acted as a butler for the family and that he kicked his addiction, but the man also paid for Declan to go to school.

While in college, Declan realized that he had a talent for chemistry- especially plant chemistry. He already knew that he could grow anything, and he finally decided to embrace his skill despite the fact that it was attached to some horrifying memories.

Declan got hired into a prestigious research center, and he happily worked there for three years. At the end of those three years, Declan got an award for his work in agricultural planning. During his award acceptance Declan said, “I escaped a farm so many years ago, and now I’ve planned dozens of them. It really is a joy to get to take that power away.”

This came back to bite Declan though. The powerful Stephens family that was left opened a court case to sue Declan for speaking out about the farm despite taking a settlement from them. The state did not take the lawsuit seriously as the farm wasn’t specifically mentioned. However, it did it’s damage.

Declan spiraled into alcoholism as his history came rearing it’s ugly head, and his life was made into an awful spectacle once again. He lost control, and he got fired from his prestigious job. With no where else to go, Declan tried to head home, but when he did, he discovered that his family were no longer in Mirror Lake.
