1893, The Coquette by Raja Ravi Varma. The accessories are so well detailed in this painting, so many beautiful colors together. Indian jewelry,names, and meaning can vary by region. In Varma's paintings you can see detailed necklaces, nose studs (naja)worn on one or both sides, elaborate nose rings (bulak)made with pearls and gems, layered bracelets, and various types of ear ornaments (thodu, jimki, visirimugu, takka). All which helped symbolize the image of beauty in Indian culture. This painting is part of a private collection and I have dropped in to see the jewelry better, but a variant can be found at the National Gallery of Modern Art in Mumbai. Since the name of the jewelry piece can very by the style, and I am no expert, I can't tell you the specific name of all the jewelry she is wearing.
