Decorarea ouălor de Paşti

  Practica decorării cojii ouălor este veche, anterioară tradițiilor creștine. Ouăle de struţi cu decoraţii gravate vechei de 60,000 ani au fost găsite în Africa. Ouă de struț decorate și reprezentarea lor în aur și argint erau de obicei puse în morminte ale vechilor sumerieni și egipteni încă de acum 5000 ani.

Adaptarea creștină a ouălor decorate poate fi găsită încă din perioada primilor creștini din Mesopotamia, care colorau ouă roșii în amintirea sângelui lui Hristos vărsat când a fost răstignit.
