I post up photos of the past sometimes and it's interesting to see how youngsters and those who didn't live around this lifestyle reply. One of the things I was taught as a youngster was about respect. You had to learn all aspects of it from respecting the next man to dressing and standing like you got some. This pose right here is one of those that has gotten lost in time. I remember being a youngster and asking an older head why the homies sit with their legs crossed like this and was told that was how the real gangsters and men of respect sat back in the days. Seen the hardest dudes in prison photos sitting like this and the most gangster dude on the old block chill with their cane in this pose. A youngster on one of my post recently asked why they were sitting like that and even made fun of it. In my days, if an OG sat you down and was sitting like while smoking a frajo then you knew you were about to get schooled. Like many things in life, times change and so do styles. Even today's "gangster" poses look nothing like they once did. People even stand different in photos if you really pay attention. No stance or pose these days screams for respect unless you got a stack of money or a gun with a big clip. Back then you didn't need all those accessories. #barrio2barrio #barriohistorian #SpeedyLocs #RIPSpeedyLoc #Decoto #Cholostyle
From the Tribune March 18 1972) got sent this article on the formation of the #DecotoCarnales from #Decoto , their logo was the infamous "we've seen death" face that is still prevalent within generations of Decoto residents though tattoos and clothing. I like their statement on acceptance of all genders and age groups within society because in contrast, the cholo/homeboy is often forgotten about by today's Xicanx unless it comes to the appropriation of the iconic Cholo/a imagery. They are rarely fought for or included in today's society and are often referred to as "machistas" instead of being told their are as much apart of the fabric of society as they were 45 years ago when the topics of the day were police harassment and heroin addiction. #barriohistorian #barrio2barrio
