for your mercole au, is he a specific species of fish? or is that sort of ambiguous like most merpeople? also, i noticed cole tying algae bracelets to kai’s(?) wrist, will he be an important character in the au? love your cole design a lot btw 💛

I'm glad you enjoyed my rendition of it! Cole is my favorite to brainstorm with on AUs ♡♡♡

At first, I designed Cole as just a typical ambiguous mermaid, but I think it'll be more interesting if he were to be a kind of fish! I want to make each design unique to their own.

This is the first draft design I made! Anatomy is not that good, but I just want to point out the markings that would be present on Cole.

I don't have a set type of fish yet, since there's a huge variety! Some of the suggestions I got is Cole being an asian arowana or a stonefish. Please do tell me if there's any you'd like to add!

In the general AU, Kai is one of the first humans Cole befriended! (Perhaps something more if you want something lava related!) He makes algae bracelets to those he is very close with as a merpeople tradition, I think. Thank you for the ask!
