Dee-evolution AU

Ok so I’ve been rewatching 2012 and watching the plot lines revolving around retromutagen got me thinking… what if there was an actual threat of the turtles being turned back into ordinary turtles? What if it actually happened? And so then I drew that lol.

In this AU one of the turtles’ missions involving retromutagen goes wrong, and Donnie ends up getting hit. He’s turned back into a little red eared slider turtle, and his brothers are left to pick up the pieces. None of them have any idea how much of Donnie is left in his animal form, but it’s clear that without his intelligence, they’re going to have a hard time fixing this… if they can at all.

I’m also thinking that while Donnie’s just a normal turtle they end up calling him “Dee” more than anything else… devolution… dee-evolution… cause he’s un-evolving… anyways that’s the AU name haha I like it

This may have been done before but I haven’t seen it and now I’m in love with the concept!

Leo tightened the strap of the tray that would hold an assortment of drinks and food. Even though they didn’t make it into the competition, they didn’t mind handing out refreshments. After making sure it was secure, he looked over to Mikey, who was doing the same.

“You doing okay, Mike?”

Mikey secured the strap over his neck, tongue stuck out in concentration.

“Got it!”

Leo smiled and gave a thumbs up. Though their smile fell when they heard the familiar sounds of a laser gun being fired. He barely had time to see where the laser bullets were going before they pulled Mikey out of the way. The bullets stopped as fast as they came.

When the twins stared in the direction they came from, they saw who Leo assumed was a Donatello on a tv screen attached to a robot; a tiny turtle wearing a hoodie, a teal bandanna, and glasses; and a… an unmutated turtle attached to a small gatling gun?

Leo blinked, then asked his twin, “S-Should we... report this or something?”

“Mmm. Nah. I think it’ll be fine.”

Leo sighed. As if they didn’t deal with enough chaos from just his siblings.

My turtles didn’t make it into the tmnt au comp, but that just means they have the perfect viewpoint of all the chaos.

A silly little doodle from my Dee-evolution AU! Raph is the resident team member with actual knowledge on how to take care of turtles, so now that Donnie is turtlified he’s the primary one making sure he stays healthy… despite some other team member’s best efforts.

I had lots of plans of what I was going to work on today but turns out drawing is hard, so have a simple Dee-evolution doodle instead :)

AGREED, Dee absolutely deserves hugs, so here’s Mikey giving him one! He’s convinced Dee loves hugs. He’s so smoll right now he needs to be protected and brother hugs are the best thing for that!

And honestly when you mentioned taking a nap with the little guy I desperately wanted to draw a turtle pile, but I know they wouldn’t do that. Both Leo and Raph would be terrified of crushing Dee in their sleep, so they make sure he’s safe in his tank. That doesn’t mean he sleeps alone though; he has company most nights <3
