Say No to Trawlin' (Tastefully Done Fish Fotos)
It's a seriously Bad (capital B) problem for a million reasons. Imagine the equivalent of underwater rainforests that have yet to be explored (we've only documented 1%) being destroyed in one fell swoop by a massive net just to get a few kinds of popular bottom feeders like orange roughie. Bycatch galore. Pre-historic reefs ruined.
It's real. It's happening. And a lot of people are fed up with it; so fed up, in fact, that celebrities [mostly French] are stripping down to bring attention to trawlin'.
Check out this French DJ's face while he clutches his best friend, Redfish. He's just one of 15 highlighted in the "Fishlove" campaign.
Those eyes tell me he's not gunna stand for any more trawlin'. And, well, I haven't heard of him before, but you can bet I'll be listening to his beats from now on.
While I'm not sure how much of a splash (pun intended) this promotion will make, it does draw attention to the Petition to End Trawling that will be presented to the European Parliament when they cast their vote December 10 on whether to ban trawling in their waters, a pretty important piece of international legislation for our oceans.

I have and you should. Make our collective voice heard and make a difference. And, as your reward, you can find out which fish are most photogenic... [Spoiler Alert: The biggest name is an X-Files star with a precariously positioned eel]
While your at it, do some investigating on your own about trawling.
My Quick Google Revealed:
This infographic not only explains trawling and it's impacts, it also taught me that deep sea corals can be over 4200 years old and that we've wiped out over 90% of deep water sharks in less than 15 years. BIG :(
R. Branson isn't down with DSBT! (deep sea bottom trawlin', duh)
Norway's banned it over the Røst reef, the biggest cold-water reef in the world, which was only discovered in 2002. High-Five, Norwegians.
