You’d probably be better off at least starting with an old dc wallwart or laptop power brick to do the rectification, and then just adjust voltage

You’re probably right, I did look up the Wikipedia article about capacitive droppers, and it doesn’t sound like that would work. 

But anyway, it’s 14.4 volts, which would be 12 AA cells, which wouldn’t be too hard to cobble together I wouldn’t think.

What value caps do you need? If you don’t have them, I probably have a few I could spare

According to Clive, I need 10nF 100V, and I only need one so far, I think I’ll probably be ok, but if you wanna come up here, maybe bring me a guitar pickup and I’ll knock out a spoon for you, that’d be cool.

Oh yeah, Ax-Man is great, but it’s a bit less convenient and I’m not sure they’d have the particular kind of LED lights that I want either. I want a string of the little surface mount ones that are just soldered onto coated copper wire. Poundland has lots of them, apparently. 

Amazon has them, of course, but I was so hoping to find them for a dollar, because I don’t have very many dollars atm.

They might not all be made of wood from my willow tree because making a spoon out of a log is hard. I have some birch though and a nice piece of cherry that I got for free.

I suppose they did that, but he could easily have been going out for just about anything else. Sudden craving for a Snickers and he wanted to get it himself, you know? In any case it was a dumb metaphor.
