Something is different when Browning wakes up today. The sky over her campsite isn't cloudy for once...it's clear, brisk, and sunny, and it's as if a weight has been lifted from the air to make it far less oppressive.
And a short distance from her campsite, staring straight at her with shimmering golden eyes, is a huge russet wolf, way bigger than any wolf she's ever seen. It doesn't seem hostile, nor is it after her food. It's simply watching.
There was something deeply unsettling about the almost bright skies surrounding her camp within the Hinterlands. She never saw it this bright out, much less the vibrance so aloft. For the first time in a while, she could stare far off into the distance of those strange woods, viewing how vast they go. Of course, that wasn’t the only reason she was peering into the distance.
There appeared some kind of being off to the distance…a beast by the look of it. Quadruped, standing upright and proud…blazing yellow eyes that almost reflected the sun. Surprisingly, it seemed to be waiting for her. She couldn’t prove it but there was a lingering feeling that crept into her mind as she thought about it.
In that same breath, another thought blazed into her own mind as she thought about the mysterious animal out in the distance:
“…No…Nope, I’m not dealing with that today…”
Clear sunny day, warm lights, pleasant atmosphere? This was a trick, wasn’t it? No, scratch that, it was a trick. She knew better than to fall for it. This was probably some new chosen out here with the ability to deceive people into thinking they are helpful before chewing their face off or something. She wasn’t having it. She was not going to pop out of her tent to check it out. She had sleep to catch up on. Rather catch up on some Z’s than get bothered by some bastard that will cause her to do some unreasonably stupid thing as punishment for normal curiosity.
