I just wanted to share about my otp is the extremes Suzaku and Lelouch would go to for each other. Lelouch's extremes for Suzaku to be seen as human and Suzaku's extremes to make Lelouch human.

What went through Suzaku's mind when he did those stuff? I have this headcanon where their rocky start is what they needed in order for them to grow up to be the people who we know now?

Hello, it’s wonderful to meet you as well! I’m sure Suzaku thought Lelouch was annoying at first. According to the sound episodes that go with R1, Suzaku originally beat Lelouch up for “lying.” (Lelouch was actually lying to Nunnally by describing their horrible living situation on the Kururugi Shrine as something nice – if I recall correctly, he was painting a picture of Euphy’s room when in fact they were thrown to live in a ramshackle building on the edge of the Kururugi property. But Suzaku didn’t understand until later WHY Lelouch was lying. Seeing Nunnally blind and crippled opened Suzaku’s eyes and he ran off.) Later during the sound episodes, Suzaku openly complains to Tohdoh about how annoying he finds Lelouch because Lelouch insists on doing everything on his own. Suzaku is insulted that Lelouch won’t eat the food that the Kururugi family provides, and Suzaku thinks Lelouch is a snob. Suzaku treats Lelouch accordingly for awhile, until Nunnally goes missing and they both run off to find her. They all end up together during a rainstorm in Suzaku’s secret fort, and they end up becoming friends. They realize their perceptions of each other are wrong. I don’t think Lelouch ever did anything to purposefully annoy Suzaku – until they became friends and maybe started teasing each other in a friendly way. (Lelouch, at that point in time, had too much else to focus on, with learning how to do simple tasks, taking care of Nunnally, and basically learning to live on his own.) When Lelouch gets beat up in town for being a Britannian, Suzaku comes to his rescue. Suzaku’s mindset of Lelouch changes from ‘snobby Brit shit prince’ to ‘human being.’ 

I completely agree with you that their rocky start WAS what they needed in order for them to grow up to be the people they become in R1 and R2. They have an emotionally-charged negative first meeting and they learn to overcome their differences, showing that it is possible – which is ironic since they’re able to go from enemies to friends, but their countries can’t. Their strong feelings for each other turn positive, which results in the bond we see. They each made a deep impact on each other’s lives as children, both originally negative and then growing more positive, and that bond continues to strengthen up to and beyond Zero Requiem.
