Powderpuff Lichen - April 2021 Salt Springs Observation Platform Trail is located in the Ocala National Forest. It is a short trail that takes you out to a platform overlooking the creek formed by Salt Springs as the water flows down toward Lake George. It was the dry season when I walked the trail and not much wildlife was present, but there was an abundance of Powderpuff Lichen, also called Deer Lichen or Deer Moss. The delicate balls of this pale green lichen form interesting images whether individually, in small groups, or in huge patches. MWM
