Okay for the commentary I have to ask for that Sciles moment in D&P right before Stiles gets flogged starting with “T hey slowed as they reached the edge, Scott coming to a halt.”
Ah, goodness-- so as I’ve mentioned before, friendship is really, really important to me. and, paritcularly in D&P, the sciles friendship had to be SO important, equally as important as the sterek (while obviously different; and I think that’s what some people don’t understand, that friendship can be equal to romantic relationships while still being very different). This is also the first time I think i try to set up that, in that world, humans can be alphas and scott is an Alpha. I also wanted to make it super clear that a person can be happy while also still deeply committed to fighting for a cause: AKA throughout the story, Scott seemed happier than Stiles but was still just as committed to breaking free and hated werewolves just as much as Stiles did (especially in this moment). So... yeah that’s where that came from. Or at least, that’s what came out (tbh I don’t plan much ahead so some of these answers is me being like “well... as we see here, i planned this ever so perfectly”... even though in reality, nothing was planned at all).
I’m not sure at what point I’m supposed to cut off talking: but I should also mention that Stiles’ reactions to actually being whipped come largely from the fact that when Passion of the Christ came out, my mom wouldn’t go see it because of the violence but she is a Catholic woman so she watched a lot of the interviews with the guy that played Jesus, Jim Caviezel (it also helped that he was “nice to look at” as she put it). So one day, we were hanging out and I saw an interview where he was describing that when they were doing the whipping scene, they had a board that the other actor was supposed to hit (obviously to avoid hitting Caviezel) but on like the first take, it was too small. So the guy missed. And Caviezel basically described the pain as this stingy, firey heat that actually made it impossible for him to communicate to the crew that something was wrong (they all thought the blood was just the props, ya know). So actually, the guy hit him again and then Caviezel said that he still couldn’t talk so he just ripped his hands free of the set chains (skinning them in the process) and thats when the crew finally figured out something was wrong. So that description is basically what I went on in terms of Stiles’ reactions. (I could be remembering this wrong or it could all be a lie but I figured it was better than any other info I could find without subjecting myself to truly horrific google searches).
(also, I’m not one for watching the movie passion of the christ, but man the bts stuff coming out of that film are horrifying. jim caviezel actually went through like A Lot when filming this film. )
ANYWAY, thanks for the ask!
