RIP Jim Shooter
Since I’m on the topic of 1993… I was talking to a colleague about Jim Shooter, which inevitably led to talking about his short-lived post-Valiant stint with Defiant Comics. They had a number of titles, most of them awful (with the exception of the Ditko creation Dark Dominion), but they really took the ‘90s gimmick-era thing to excess. Like, issue #0 of Warriors of Plasm (their flagship title) was a binder in which you slotted in a card set that MADE up the issue. You had to buy an entire fucking card set just to read the comic. And then send them $5.95 for the back cover of the binder.
Because I was an idiot, I got the Dark Dominion and Plasm binders early on but got rid of them at some point. The only remnants of the Plasm-verse in my collection is this tin Splatter Bowl “Preview Set” that had 30 cards and some special foil card.
