Happy Day 26 of #Emily Wilde Winter Joy!
Time to share a very special project I've been working on for a couple of months: since we don't (yet) have Emily Wilde films/soundtracks to enjoy, I've been creating cinematic playlists for each of the books, each with an accompanying "screenplay."
The screenplays map out which book scene goes to which song AND has timestamps coordinating each moment to the rise and fall in the music.
You can simply enjoy the songs matched to their scenes, but I highly recommend taking some time to go through the timestamps/script as you listen.
It'll feel rushed and awkward at first, and you'll have to pause and go back to catch things. But once you've gone through each song a couple of times, you'll be able to "watch" the film as you listen without having the script in front of you.
Here is Compendium of Lost Tales, the only one I have finished so far. Hope you enjoy the show as much as I do!!
The playlist is here on Spotify and here on YouTube
The screenplay is here on AO3
.
Note: when you come to the last song, you can search online or just use my #fan art tag to "watch" the end credits... You'll see what I mean!
"I believe my nephew will make a terrible king."
"I never believed the Folk who said you had turned professor. I simply can't imagine you putting in the effort."
"He has never been a particularly observant creature."
"Help me bring about my son's death. There is nothing special about him, Emily, I promise... you will not miss him."
"My son was always a superficial creature."
"I was not enthusiastic about the prospect of my nephew inheriting the throne, and for the most part, I remain unimpressed by him, even if he is less feckless than he once was."
"My father could not have had a lower opinion of my political capabilities."
"I have had no real trouble. Not from my court, and certainly from my son, airheaded creature that he is."
"Your talent for shirking responsibility was unparalleled."
"I would not be surprised if you were more adept at ruling a faerie kingdom alone than with my help."
"Is our king perhaps a disappointment in other respects?"
"I have never seen anything exceptional in him. As a child, his magical talents were ordinary, and certainly there were many wiser and braver—and less indolent—candidates for the throne, including at least two of his siblings."
"What a fearsome reputation this one has! They say he was almost always the last to leave a party."
"I thought you were supposed to be clever. Or is that just in comparison with my brother? No one thinks he's smart, that's for sure."

No this post isn't about anything in particular, why do you ask 😭
New Emily Wilde fic:
King for a Day
I am so excited to share "King for a Day" with you all! This is Wendell's memoir re: the day he ascended to the throne of Where the Trees Have Eyes (and his exile later that day, of course).
But there's more! Today is the Faerie Fools Exchange event on the Emily Wilde Discord (s secret Santa exchange). My illustrious Faerie Fool @aranov requested some irresponsible party boy teenage Wendell (Liath). So Wendell and his silly friends will be getting up to plenty of mischief before it all comes crashing down.
This will be my longest fic so far, at least 10 chapters! The first two chapters are up now. Get ready to meet Wendell’s family (including little Deilah) and all his silly OC friends!

My stepmother was in a strange mood; she had been all day. She reached up and gently touched my hair. Her expression was positively maternal.
“Promise me you won’t grow up too fast?”
I laughed. “Don’t worry.”
I hadn’t been fair to her, I decided in that moment. In the past few months she had been kinder to all of us, or at least more patient. Of Father’s moods, especially. And her forbearance with the twins this morning was almost revolutionary. Awkwardly, I put my arms around her delicate shoulders. She was tense too; we’d never been particularly affectionate with each other.
“Oh, Liath.” She gave me a little squeeze before retreating. And then, to my utter astonishment, she brushed away a tear. “Do you know? You’ve always been my favorite.”
New Emily Wilde one-shot!
This begins a new multi-chapter ficlet set a few months after the end of Compendium (so about a month after Emily's coronation). This ficlet explores a few post-canon themes I've been wanting to get to, many of which revolve around the theme of family.

Wendell was already waiting for me at the training green, whose grass had already grown over the torn-up places from this morning. His white lace-up tunic and tan breeches were also miraculously pristine, which made me wonder how many of these identical sparring getups he has made for himself. His dressing room is much larger than mine, and that is saying something.
“You are very punctual,” I said.
“I will have you know that I was a model student in my day. Always on time, always the quickest learner.”
“In which subjects, I wonder?”
"Swordmanship. Knife-work. Needlecraft.” He thought for a moment. “I think that about covers it. My attendance to the other subjects was a little more, ah, spontaneous.”
“So as long as sharp objects are involved…?”
He sighed very loudly, looking me over. “I see I will need to make you a fencing outfit.”
I missed this family
