merau is a thing sam (BHABE WHAT IS UR NEW URL I KEEP GOING TO USE SAWYL FORGETTING THAT’S THE OLD ONE?!) and I shitpost back and forth about whenever we remember it exists. it basically turned into a fairy tale the more we added to it. i love it.
it’s an au for dai. magic is still a thing, red lyrium is still a thing. mers as per usual are thought to just be a story but dorian is obsessed with them and studying them (as well as any sort of rare magic type thing). the chargers have a ship and go port to port just doing whatever kinda shit for money. dorian hires them so he can study mers further.
nerri catches deinol admiring dorian and his sparkly self one day and makes EVERYTHING WORSE. dorian catches a brief glimpse of dei and is immediately obsessed with seeing him again. from there nerri and deinol follow the chargers’ ship fucking with dorian as much as possible.
THAT’S THE BASIC ‘STORY’
additional notes:
- mers can go on land by putting TONS of work into charms that allow them to…basically shapeshift a set of legs lol. the charms can be made out of anything but have to be worn if they want to stay transformed. dei and nerri have their own (that…took a fair bit of effort to make) that they use to…well…steal from ppl lol. they crash fancy parties and eat everything and take whatever shinies they can get away with (this obviously leads to Bad Scenarios on one or two occasions where their charms are removed and shit goes Down. mers are a ‘myth’ but some peeps know they’re more than that and hunt them as exotic pets…basically…**). dei LOVES dressing up. he’s beautiful (i THINK we may have decided dorian sees him at a party once? and recognizes him as a mer and that’s another reason he’s super invested in finding him again? so many of our ‘au notes’ are just….lost in shitposting lol)
** red lyrium is used as shackles. often as a last resort to muzzle since it can be p damaging
- bull’s fingers are missing because nerri ate them. she doesn’t know it was him until smelling his blood in the water after an accident and recognizes it. she eats so many fingers you can’t blame her for losing track
- nerri is extremely protective of deinol. VIOLENTLY PROTECTIVE.
- mers are fairly nocturnal, preferring to find nice warm spots during the day to rest and stay warm. once they start following the chargers dei and nerri start to sneak onto the ship to take things and generally fuck with them at night (bull catches nerri one evening…it doesn’t go well…)
THAT’S EVERYTHING I CAN THINK OF RIGHT NOW! meraus are ALWAYS my fav i LOVE THEM.
