My Personal Deities Post: Freyja
Freyja is a recent God that I’ve started to work with, and I think right now I work with her about as much as I work with Mani or Frigg, if not more at times.
I found Freyja after my last relationship. Throughout the duration of my relationship I had a hard time speaking up for myself. A hard time rocking the boat, defending myself, letting it be known when I was upset, etc. Truthfully its been this way my whole life. I hate conflict, I hate rocking the boat. It was easier for me to retreat into my shell when something was upsetting me, to refuse to acknowledge it and hope it would pass than it was to address the issue and defend myself.
I turned to Freyja to ask her for guidance, to help me develop my own claws, to learn that it was not only possible, but necessary to defend myself while still keeping the sweet, kind, caring personality that has come to define me. Freyja helps me find my strength, helps me be my own person without being a doormat.
Devotional acts for Freyja include journaling, speaking up for myself, defending myself, etc. Any time I speak my own truth rather than retreat into my shell or avoid conflict is an act of devotion to her. Anything I do that makes me stronger and more confident pleases her. I know she’s also the goddess of love/ sex etc but that’s not really the part of her I work with. Being Asexual and all. If I get into another relationship and that becomes part of it, then maybe we’ll turn more to that.
Right now its more about the self love, the confidence, and the strength to defend myself, whether that be straight up punching someone (though I haven’t had to go there) or just using my voice when something is upsetting me. I have a long way to go yet but I do feel stronger and confident with Freyja by my side.
I have two necklaces that I wear in honor of her, one is a gorgeous, large labradorite stone set in a flower. Ironically my ex bought it for me at a festival. I wear it because its large enough to make me think of Brísingaman. My other one is a small vintage amber earring that was repurposed into a necklace when its mate was lost. I’ll switch them out depending on which one matches my outfit better, or how bold I want Freyja’s presence to be that day.
Stones I associate with her obviously include amber, and because of the other necklace I have, labradorite.
I don’t have much for looks on Freyja, she presents to me mostly through the sense that she’s there and through my thoughts. If I had to put looks to her I’d say she probably looks a lot like Lagertha from Vikings, but idk how she would choose to present to me cos I can’t really think of anything right now.
