just finished rewatching watching Barbie Princess Charm School for my girl Delancy.
i will never not stress on how much i love delancy. how much i admire her. she had to turn against her own mother, the only one she has, she had to publicly humiliate her own mother to give that crown to sophia.
all her life she grew up knowing she was going to be the princess. that she was going to have it all. she prepared her whole life for the coronation day. she could have ignored her mother’s attempts to expel sophia. she could have let that guard lock them up, she didn’t have to help them. she didnt have to give away everything she lived for, just because it was the right thing to do.
but she did. and i admire her so much for it. she could have just gave the crown to her mother and taken the throne. i wouldnt have even blamed her, that crown is what she lived and trained for her entire life. it’s like throwing your entire life, your entire identity away for someone you’ve known for not more than a year. for someone you hated for a year.
yes she was a bully. yes she did all those mean things. yes she humiliated blaire so many times. but really, i cant bring myself to blame her when those morals were instilled into her by her mother since birth.
i know what you must be thinking. how could one person change, become a good person in such a short time. that it’s just something they had to do for the sake of the plot.
id like to disagree.
the proof would be that one scene when she overheard the girls speculating on how blair could be princess sophia. you can see the pure shock on her face. how she walked up to that portrait of the previous queen and spent her time looking at it, realising that the classmate she hated for a year was her cousin, the rightful heir to the very throne she lived for. she knew blair was a good person at heart. delacy taking the throne would have ruined lives, but blair taking it would have prevented that. she knew, you could see how upset she was at dinner at the palace.
she gave the throne knowing that blair could hate her for life, could ruin her life. she would go from future princess to the princess’s enemy. knowing all of this, she still took those decisions.
to you, Delancy might have just been a plot device, but to me, she is an inspiration. she taught me that what you grew up to believe in might be wrong, and doing the right thing could ruin your life, but that shouldnt stop you.
delancy was a closeted sapphic who comes out after coronation. portia was a definitely high the entire movie. they’re girlfriends. they go on double dates with hadley and isla. thank you that is all.
#1144: "Some time ago, I fell into a little depressive episode, fully unmotivated, constantly sleeping but feeling tired and barely eating. But I decided to watch Princess Charm School and I brought back a lot of good memories and made me happy, and it ultimately opened the door for my recovery."
