I first noticed the Bun's sign on a drive down to Columbus in the early 1990s. I didn't get a chance to eat there until this visit in 2024. Hoffman's Bakery opened in 1864. They added ice cream and changed their name to Hoffman's Bakery and Ice Cream in 1889, and the business became a restaurant in 1922. George Hoffman, grandson of the founder, was nicknamed "Bun" after the bakery and the restaurant eventually became known as Bun's. The Hoffman owned Bun's until 1991. The arch over the street dates to the 1920s when merchants on that block of West Winter Street decided the street needed more light at night. Here's a 1930s postcard of the arch and sign.
