This was a thing. My grandfather always had some in the fridge. It achieved a level of sweetness that is not safe for humans. It makes my teeth hurt just to think about it.

Apparently it was named for the Delaware grape which is supposedly the flavor of the beverage. The Delaware grape was named for Delaware County, Ohio so the beverage has no affiliation with the state.

But that’s not the most interesting fact from the wiki page. That would be that apparently, it is still is a thing:   “The beverage is difficult to find, but is still served in some restaurants in Houston, Texas. It is also sold in certain grocery stores in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas. Delaware Punch can also be found for sale on eBay. Delaware Punch concentrate can be purchased from several online soft drink retailers.”
