Delena Forever Ours - July 4: Three Delena-related Quotes (pt. 1)

I’m definitely not a “meta writer”, but I want to participate and help to keep the Delena tag on tumblr alive and beautiful. Please forgive me if my entries are not very elaborate or creative... I’ve got a new job recently and I don’t have much time to edit pictures etc, so I’ll just write down something for each category.
July 4: Three Delena-related Quotes (pt. 1)
Rose: “Don't tell them I'm here. They had a fight. I know you want to stop it. Protect her from him. But you're young, you don't see what I see. It's not just that she makes him a better person, she does, but he changes her too. Damon challenges her, surprises her, he makes her question her life, beliefs. Stefan is different, his love is pure, he'll always be good for her. Damon is either the best thing for her or the worst.”

I loved this scene when it aired and I love it even more now that the show is over and she’s been proved 100% right.
Season 3, especially the 2nd half, was so stelena-heavy that these few words were a breath of fresh air! I especially love how she tells Jeremy that he can’t understand Damon and Elena because he’s “young”. What Damon and Elena had even before they became a couple was a complex relationship, with complex dynamics. They already had the grounds to build a mature, adult relationship, based on a solid build-up. It’s never been your average “love-at-first-sight high-school epic romance” that anyone can find cute and fluffy at some point.
They’ve always had something more, and Rose explains exactly what this “more” is. Elena makes Damon want to be a better person, to be the better man... but he too has an effect on her, whether she realizes it or not.
Stefan: You've changed. Something is different about you. You're stronger. Tougher. (3x12)
After being away with Klaus, Stefan comes home to a “new” Elena. She’s become stronger, tougher. Alaric and Damon helped her, taught her how to fight, how to defend herself. And Stefan notices the change. It wasn’t because of him, nor thanks to him, it was despite him.
Elena: I'm not sorry that knowing you has made me question everything. (4x23)
Once again, Rose was right. And when Elena utters these words, she is finally ready to embrace what a relationship with Damon can give her. Before, she was scared. Scared of what it would mean, scared of what other people *cough*Caroline*cough* might think of her, scared of Damon’s tendency to be unpredictable, to “sabotage things”, to “lash out” every time there’s a “bump in the road”. At the time when Rose says these things about Delena, Stefan is still the “safe choice” for Elena, the one who doesn’t make her step out of her comfort zone... while Damon “challenges her” instead.
Elena: When I'm with [Damon]... it feels unpredictable, like I'm free. (4x10)
Eventually Elena learns to see exactly what Rose had seen.
It could be the fact that she becomes a vampire and that turns her life upside down, it could be that the sirebond heightens her pre-existing human feelings for Damon (the ones she pushed back with all her strength in S3) and it chases away all her doubts and fears.
But in the end that unpredictability that had made her second-guess and reject her own feelings, turns out to be what makes her feel free, and alive.
We know now that Damon & Elena got married and lived a long, happy life that goes on even in the afterlife... so Rose was right about one last thing: Damon is either the Best thing for her... or the worst.
