I wish I could have talked to her. She is one of my favorites. So complex and beautiful. I just get so sad thinking about how much she had to give. I wish more people would have shown her when she was alive that she was more than just a pretty face - that she had depth. She just wanted to be valued. That’s what she deserved. She grew up in foster homes after her mother was committed. She was sexually assaulted while growing up. She married at 16. Her first husband was shipped off to the South Pacific. She got divorced, changed her name, and dyed her hair back to the blond it was when she was a child. She wanted respect. She wanted to be a star. Marilyn was always herself - witty and with a natural beauty that drew people in. If you look at some of the photographers who took her pictures, they almost always refer back to how wonderful of a person she was.
