GUYS - BEFORE YOU DELETE ANY OF YOUR BLOGS, PLEASE READ THIS
Whether you’re deleting your blog(s) because they’re outdated, unneeded, or you’ve lost muse, are being harassed (anon-hate or otherwise), or you’re just not comfortable with your blog anymore, PLEASE consider these two options BEFORE you delete:
Save your post archive - In which you save the content you want from the blog in closing. Doing this can help you preserve your favorite moments, memories & content on that particular blog. Whether it’s a funny conversation that cheers you up when you’re down, or a piece of art/writing/thought that you want to stow away for later, SAVE IT & BACK IT UP off-blog. You can do this by copying and pasting each post/post page into a Word document or in a note on Evernote. This could take a while, depending on how much content you have on your blog, but it’s worth it if it means keeping the treasures you put on your blog and avoiding harassment from judgemental users.
Closing/Archiving - in which you cease posting on the blog, make it private and/or use it as a reference for yourself and your future works. Example: You run an NSFW blog but have a lot of deep/thoughtful posts on it like thoughts about the piece, your experience making it, or some backstory attached to the piece that you hadn’t shared before. To preserve those thoughts while distancing yourself from and avoiding a blog you’re now uncomfortable running, close it and possibly make it private (if it’s a side blog).
I know there’s a lot of judgemental anon-hate running around and between one’s own loneliness, feelings or mental illness, and I know there are a lot of people closing & deleting their blogs because of it. I also know there are people who are getting their blogs shut down for false accusations and other issues.
This right here, this Saving your posts thing, is one of the best things I ever did and have been doing since I joined Tumblr because honestly, I have lost wonderful writings here and on other forums after either the blogs were deleted or the sites became defunct. (Granted I’m a literary hoarder and save all of my writings so as to use them as fodder for future material but w/e!). HOwever, although losing writings and art is tragic, being able to go back and reread the fun/angsty stuff you wrote with friends or by yourself is one of the most comforting and motivating things I’ve ever done. It reminds me of how much I enjoy writing, how much I enjoy interacting with other people, and it gives me the reassurance that I can do things If I just get up and do them. I dunno how this will affect others, but I know it affects me in an incredibly positive way.
