It began with a simple message. Just one, almost a year ago now. To the pretty redhaired woman on the message board. That message became another and then another, until he would go without sleep just to get to talk to her for another few minutes. Those few minutes became an hour and then two and then dawn would break and they would still be talking. 

Unfortunately he lived on one coast and she lived on the other. Between work and school schedules, a skype date was the best they could hope for. Still the connection was unbelievable. The first time she called him ‘Daddy’, he grinned like a fool for three days straight. They had a ritual and rules, even though the distance was hard.

On her birthday, he set her a birthday card and a photocopy of a plane ticket. A plane ticket that would have him with her for the Christmas holidays. Unfortunately, with two days to go before Christmas itself and the day before his flight, all planes in and out of her home city were grounded due to a blizzard. The roads became impassable, power became an issue, with lights flickering or out all over the City. It seemed impossible that he would arrive in time for the holidays.
