Spoilers for episode 9 of TADC. I’m not going to talk too much about the actual scene, but everyone’s reaction. Because boy howdy do some of you people not understand tone.
So the scene where Pomni is talking to all the different Jax’s right? Really important scene showing how Jax views himself, about her inner turmoil. This isn’t a post about whether or not it was a good portrayal, this is a post about how people reacted.
Those scenes are not supposed to be funny. Those scenes were supposed to be uncomfortable at BEST. You are not supposed to be LAUGHING at a character, who is so blatantly a trans allegory, repressing her feelings and berating herself and the one person who cares about her.
Not only that, the scene where Gangle was planning Zoobles funeral? And Jax makes her incredibly uncomfortable by making several sexual innuendos and advances? That’s not funny! Sexual harassment is not funny! I don’t care if it’s fueling your fucking ship, it wasn’t cute. And it wasn’t supposed to be funny.
There were so many times throughout the movie where the entire audience would laugh at a scene that was so obviously supposed to be serious. And it genuinely ruined my experience. Because how are y’all, who are mostly queer yourself, not going to understand the intention of a queer story? A so blatantly in your face queer story???
