Soooooo… this project was originally going to be a LOT different! I initially was just going to do a "with lyrics" kind of cover of the original, and one chunk of the lyrics I wrote for that actually made it in here as part of the secret lyrics! But as I was listening to the track more to come up with lyrics a lot of which were kinda jank hence why I scrapped them, that evolved into a desire to outright cover the track in its entirety from the ground up. This was VERY difficult to transcribe -- and even pick out instruments for -- in a fair few key regards, but the effort was well worth it. I'm admittedly not completely satisfied with the percussion, but I managed to get it in a fine enough state by the end of this whole process. Pitched my cover down a couple semitones from the original, and even added a new section here! While I really adore the original track (to the point of listening to it to an EXCESSIVE degree,) I feel like one slight missed opportunity was the complete ommission of the second half of Dirk's motif, so I used it as a base to merge with ULTIMATE HEIST's stylings and create the new part (while taking similar creative liberties as to what Emihead did with the first half of Dirk's motif.) The lyrics for the vocals around about 1:44 - 1:52 were adapted and truncated from Khamydrian's well-known lyrical adpatation of Mad Dummy. The section in particular that I used was VERY MUCH on the brain as being fitting for Dirk, albeit in a FAR different way than they were for Mad Dummy. So for lack of a better way of putting it, I pulled a fucking Spamton lmaoooo. And ye, I did ALL of the vocals here. But yeah, I think that's about all I wanted to talk about. Was incredibly satisfying putting this together over the past week (has especially helped the tail end of my leave of absence from work fly by,) and I hope you all enjoy! :)

okay now that i'm in a better mood i'm going to actually do the dirk explanation post.

for people who haven't been keeping up on twitter or soundcloud, dirk is my deltarune chapter 3 secret boss oc!! they are a reflection of kris, and their personality is meant to embody kris' more mischievous traits dialed up to a bajillion

this art is pretty old by the way, i know it's kind of bad

their Deal is pretty much that they think they've suffered more than kris and co., therefore they deserve to be the "hero". they think kris being "chosen" had to have been some kind of mistake, and resent being stuck in such a pitiful position.

so dirk basically lures kris into a false sense of security before krisnapping them and making them give commands to their friends so they can get them back. they also use the purple SOUL color in their fight.

just for fun i decided to try and give my superboss oc Dirk a redesign and a rewrite. this version isn't gonna replace the existing one, but will be more like an alternate version, i guess?

Bio:

Dirk is the Shadow Crystal holder of Chapter 3.

Their name has a few layers. Most obvious is that the dirk is a type of dagger, just like the kris. Save for one letter, "Dirk" is also "Kris" backwards. It's also one letter off from "dark".

Dirk is pretty much meant to reflect Kris in every way. Rather than being closed-off and quiet, they embody Kris' more mischievous side. This makes them more similar to Flowey/Asriel if anything, which also ties into the Undertale boss they parallel, the God of Hyperdeath fight in the True Pacifist route. 

Their mission in their interactions with Kris is to take their SOUL and replace them as the protagonist of the story. They think they've suffered more than Kris, and believe that makes them more worthy of being the "Hero".

They reside in the outskirts of chapter 3's dark world, and have no connection to Tenna or anyone else who rules over it. They get by with petty thievery, and are generally looked down upon by others. Kris and co. humor their interactions out of pity, but keep a close eye on them.

Once their route is complete, they lure Kris and co. towards the Dark Fountain before absorbing energy from it, which overwhelms them and transforms them into "Godmode". This form is unstable, and the heroes can win by either defeating or outlasting them.

Like Spamton, they also have a forced battle in the weird route. This time, rather than luring Kris to the Dark Fountain, they're waiting there for them to arrive. While their motivations are still largely selfish, they claim to see the "darkness" within Kris following their actions in the route, which further justifies their belief that they deserve Kris' position more than they do. Throughout the battle, they have a change of heart, realizing that the darkness is coming from Kris' very SOUL, and decide that it should be destroyed outright at the cost of their own dreams of fame.
