Trump files suit against Facebook, Twitter and YouTube

WASHINGTON (AP) — Former President Donald Trump has filed suit against three of the country's biggest tech companies, claiming he and other

Over the years, there have been dozens of lawsuits against Internet companies for suspending or terminating users' accounts. Every single one has failed. Zero exceptions.

"They've argued everything under the sun, including First Amendment, and they get nowhere ... The First Amendment applies to government censorship or speech regulation. It does not stop private sector corporations from regulating content on their platforms. In fact, Facebook and Twitter themselves have a First Amendment free speech right to determine what speech their platforms project and amplify -- and that right includes excluding speakers who incite violence, as Trump did in connection with the January 6 Capitol insurrection."

So why would Trump waste his money on a frivolous lawsuit?

"Trump's political action committee was already raising money off the announcement by early Wednesday afternoon."

Oh, right. Not his money.

Inside William Barr’s Breakup With Trump

In the final months of the administration, the doggedly loyal attorney general finally had enough.

The most interesting thing in this article is not yet another confirmation that all of Trump's claims of election fraud are (in the words of then-Attorney General William Barr himself) "all bullshit," nor yet another rehash of Trump's borderline insanity. It's that Mitch McConnell has confirmed that he knew and agreed that Trump's claims were bullshit--and "damaging to the country"--way back in mid-November of 2020, but intentionally chose not to say anything publicly for two months solely because he didn't want to risk pissing off Trump.

"Republican Senate leader Mitch McConnell had been urging him [Barr] to speak out since mid-November. Publicly, McConnell had said nothing to criticize Trump's allegations, but he told Barr that Trump's claims were damaging to the country and to the Republican Party. Trump's refusal to concede was complicating McConnell's efforts to ensure that the GOP won the two runoff elections in Georgia scheduled for January 5. ... McConnell also believed that if he openly declared Biden the winner, Trump would be enraged and likely act to sabotage the Republican Senate campaigns in Georgia. ... 'Look, we need the president in Georgia,' McConnell told Barr, 'and so we cannot be frontally attacking him right now. But you're in a better position to inject some reality into this situation. You are really the only one who can do it.' ... On another call, McConnell again pleaded with Barr to come out and shoot down the talk of widespread fraud. 'Bill, I look around, and you are the only person who can do it,' McConnell told him."

Note: Barr isn't just trying to dump blame on McConnell after the fact. McConnell has verified these facts:

"Barr related his conversations with McConnell to me. McConnell confirms the account."

On Tuesday, Trump retweeted three messages about debunked voter fraud claims from one of the most prominent QAnon accounts online.

In case there’s anyone out there who still hasn’t heard of QAnon: It’s a disproved and discredited far-right conspiracy theory claiming that a secret cabal of Satan-worshiping, cannibalistic pedophiles (mostly Democrats, of course) is running a global child sex-trafficking ring.

QAnon also claims that Trump has been fighting the cabal, which is plotting against him. So naturally Trump--impervious as he is to actual facts--fully supports QAnon and its fantasies:

“I heard that these are people that love our country. ... I understand they like me very much ... it is gaining in popularity.”

After losing the election--but before inciting insurrection and getting permanently banned from Twitter--Trump made a habit of repeatedly retweeting and endorsing QAnon falsehoods that supported his own false claims. For example. when one QAnon nutjob tweeted this lie about 2020 election fraud:

“Trump’s inspired massive MAGA tsunami turnout forced them to cheat so big they lost their minds in a fraud...”

Trump not only retweeted it but also amplified it with his own lies:

“The [sic] got caught because we were leading by so much more than they ever thought possible. Late night ballot ‘dumps’ went crazy!”

We had a massive landslide victory, as you know, in the electoral college, I guess the final number is 306.

White House tells federal agencies to proceed with plans for Trump’s February budget in latest sign of election defiance

Budget proposals are offered in February, and President Trump is set to leave office on Jan. 20. “They’re pretending nothing happened,” one government official involved in the budget process said.

Trump, in addition to instructing federal agencies to continue preparing his budget proposal for Fiscal Year 2022--which begins nine months after he leaves office--has also “instructed senior government officials to not cooperate with Biden’s transition team, igniting a potential legal battle.”

“They’re pretending nothing happened. We’re all supposed to pretend this is normal, and do all this work, while we know we’re just going to have to throw it away.”

Trump announces 'permanent ceasefire' in Syria between Turkey and Kurds; lifts sanctions on Ankara

President Trump announced Wednesday that conditions have been met between Turkey and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) for what he called a "permanent ceasefire" between the two sides and that the United States is lifting sanctions on Ankara that were implemented following the invasion of northern Syria.

Turkey has succeeded in not only slaughtering dozens of our Kurdish allies but also permanently exiling the rest of them from their home in Syria, exactly as it wanted. With Russia’s eager assistance:

“Russia and Turkey have given Kurdish fighters 150 hours starting at noon Wednesday — meaning, until next Tuesday at 6 p.m. — to withdraw from the border. Russian and Syrian government forces would move into that area immediately to ensure the Kurdish fighters pull back 20 miles from the border. Then at the end of the 150 hours, Russian-Turkish patrols would begin along a six-mile-wide strip of the border.”

And for this, Trump is rewarding Turkey by eliminating all of the sanctions imposed on Turkey last week. No consequences whatsoever for invading a sovereign country and committing war crimes. And of course Trump is claiming that this is a great victory, for which he is personally responsible.

Well, he’s not entirely wrong: It’s a great victory for Trump’s favorite autocrats, Erdogan and Putin.

Trump demands US companies 'start looking for an alternative to China'

President Trump on Friday pledged to respond to China’s latest round of tariffs “this afternoon,” further ratcheting up the trade war between Washington and Beijing.

Because trade wars are so “easy to win,” right, Donald?

“Our great American companies are hereby ordered to immediately start looking for an alternative to China.”

Somebody should probably tell the wannabe-Dictator-in-Chief that, in the United States of America, the president doesn’t have the authority to “order” American companies to do anything.
