She’s a dangerous woman. He knows this, and so does she.

There was no more running, no more hiding. He was a cornered animal fighting for his life, his body tensing up in preparation to defend himself. But he knew this was a battle he could not hope to win, and his time was finally coming to an end. Were there an afterlife for creatures of the night like him, perhaps he could have looked forward to seeing his sister once more.

But there were no gods for him to pray to, none who would listen to the pleas of a monster. There was no salvation for someone—something—so unholy, whose destiny was doomed from the very beginning.

He instinctively bared his fangs in a snarl, but he could only back up against a wall. His eyes were trained on her, his heightened senses allowing him to detect the most minuscule movement she made. Her body language told him she was alert, but not afraid. Why would she be? She was not just another regular human vampires would prey on.

She reeked like the one he lost Alune to. Aphelios was not the hunter here.
