Closet Demis
Last night, my birth mother came out to me as grey-asexual and demiromantic after reading an article about it. She said that she wasn’t ever questioning before, because she didn’t know what a-spec or demi was and she thought she just had a low sex drive. She isn’t sure whether or not she wants to “come out” to people, because she doesn’t feel like she needs to. In her words, “I am who I am, and I shouldn’t need to proclaim that.”
On that note, I just want to make a shout out to every closeted demisexual/demiromantic/demiqp person out there. Whether you are planning on having a complete coming out party or announcement, or you want to tell just a few people, or you are thinking about it, or you aren’t ready because you are still questioning, or you don’t feel the need to come out at all:
you are still demi, and you are amazing and valid.
None of the circumstances of you coming out or not, or using labels that differ or not, or considering yourself part of the a-spec community or not, or considering yourself LGBTQIA+ or not, can define what you feel in terms of attraction. So whatever decisions you make, know that I am proud of you along with thousands if not millions of people supporting you.
Have an awesome day. ~Ari
