I recently found out that Mattel is releasing a Demo-Man Figure for the Masters of the Universe: Origins Line and I can't Wait to get this Actionfigure. Because Demo-Man belongs to One of my favorite Villains of the Masters of the Universe Franchise!

I think it'd be interesting, if a bit cliche, if Skeletor was separated back into Demo-Man and Keldor, and it was the big scary demon dude that was scared of the other. Keldor was the one in the driver's seat with Demo-Man locked in the trunk this whole time. Other than a toy bio, which I'm having trouble finding, we don't really get much on DM do we? For all we know he could see the situation the way Tuvar and Badra see theirs. Hell, have DM be the one of the pair that turns good, gets redeemed, and becomes a Master. Last thing he wants is to become Hordak's prisoner or be merged with someone again.

I don't think that's cliche. Its a trope, sure. But not all tropes are cliche.

But I also just don't see it. Keldor being the evil half, or "more evil than Demo-man" just doesn't track with what's shown of Keldor in canon.

In canon, when Keldor is banished from Eternos, his throughs are not of murder and revenge. His thoughts are of justice and unity.

One language, one people, one planet.

Those aren't the thoughts of an evil man.

And then as he's traveling the globe searching for supporters, most of them join Keldor because they're outcasts like himself. Or are branded as criminals like Keldor was falsely banished as a criminal.

And then during his final death, after He-Man does banish Demo-man from him. He reverts back to being Keldor, but the version of Keldor before Hordak "healed" him. All his injuries from his battle with Randor, and his acid burn return and Keldor lay dying at He-Man's feet.

His final words are not threats from the afterlife, or vows of everlasting revenge. His last words are a plea for peace and that Adam be a good and just king to all people of Eternia, even the non-human people.

These are not the desires of an evil man.

I understand the desire to make Keldor the evil half and Demo-man the one who was just along for the ride. It is an interesting reversal of common interpretations.

But I just don't see it supported in canon. If you do write such a fic (and if you like the idea, you should write it, I encourage you!) just be sure to tag it "AU" and "OOC".

Different anon, for some reason I feel like if they ever do the split into two separate bodies route for Skeletor and Keldor they'd go a similar route like that one episode of Star Trek TOS where Kirk gets split by the transporter, as in they can't survive separated and have to be recombined somehow. Though thinking back to that episode I could see them doing something similar to the two Kirks. Keldor being so passive and spineless he can't make a decision and anyone can just walk all over him. Skeletor on the other hand, while bad before, without Keldor to balance him out somewhat is now so vicious that none of the other villains want to work with/for him, it's just not worth it for any of them, etc. I really like that episode of TOS if you couldn't tell, lmao.

The conclusion makes sense (and I think that TOS episode is the origin of the trope "can't survive apart" trope), and that would 100% be the conclusion if this ended up being a stand-alone episode.

I'm not sure how "spinless" Keldor would be, though. I mean, this is the guy who raised a small group of supporters and attacked the planetary leaders.

Instead, they could make the duality that Keldor is the strategic and calculating one, while Skeletor is the volatile and emotionally driven villain. Once it becomes clear that in order to survive, they must fuse back together, Keldor is all for doing what needs to be done, but Skeletor would rather die than go back to being just a half of something.

You ever see that moment in some series where the big bad removes their “former human self” in order to complete their plans? What affect do you think that would have on Skeletor?

Depends on how he goes about "removing his former self".

He could split "Keldor" off from himself in a way so that there's two of them running around; the Evil Skeletor and the Benign Keldor. Two people, with two distinct personalities, now living in two seperate bodies.

Or, being the Lord of Destruction, Skeletor could "destroy" whatever's left of Keldor and become "pure evil". Maybe he'd even become more dangerous and terrifying than Horde Prime!

Reading your response to my Keldor ask, as well as remembering someone's thoughts on Keldor in the CGI show, can't recall if it was yours or another anon, is kind of making me picture something. I don't think it'll ever happen and I don't have the time to do a fic based on the idea so I'll share it. The spell of separation being used on them, and rather than Demo-Man separating from Keldor, you get Keldor separating from Skeletor. They are now two separate beings, possibly at odds now, how do they work without that whole other half of them there now? Does Skeletor get more evil, but does Keldor keep the magical skills between them? What lines did the separation travel down exactly, etc. I'm sure this idea is far from original tho, be it through something like this, time travel, or some multiverse bs.

This is exactly the kind of idea I'd love to read. A character-driven story about the the nature of good and evil and what makes a person either.

Lots of people don't like the idea of Demo-man possessing Skeletor. The most common complaint I've heard is that its a "cop-out". That it makes it too easy to redeem Keldor and turn him into one of the good guys. They fail to realize that, possessed or not, it was still Keldor, as himself!, that made the deal with Hordak that got him possessed by Demo-man in the first place. Keldor is still accountable for his own choices before he became Skeletor. Introducing Demo-man just gives us a device in-universe to quickly and easily show the hero characters that there HOPE for Keldor. That Randor could get his brother back.

Keldor would still have to atone for the things he did when he was still Keldor. Its not a cop-out.

Also, is Keldor aware of the things he did as Skeletor? Was he watching through his own eyes while a demon had control over his body and committed violation after violation against, not just his enemies, but his friends too? Does Keldor have nightmares about ripping off Kronis' jaw? Does he wake up at night screaming or pleading with Demo-man not to hurt Lyn or their son?

There is a lot that can be done with the idea of Demo-man and Keldor splitting into two bodies and I would love to see it!

Some day, some fan fic author will write this fic. And when they do, I'll be there to read it and leave them Kudos!
