So basically, this takes place after Yuna’s death.
She was so heartbroken by her death that she ran away the first chance she got after receiving the kimono they made once Yuna’s haori was restored.
Her necklace was fashioned from a small chunk of Yuna’s copper hand guard on her katana.
She tried to stay strong because she didn’t want to leave Tanjiro to grieve on his own, but she just couldn’t.
When she ran away she was so overcome with grief and guilt that she didn’t notice Muzan approaching her as she cried under a large tree.
His intent was to kill her to get to Tanjiro but due to her being a yokai she survived the normally fatal dose of blood he gave the distracted Milo.
Her being a yokai also helped escape Muzan’s control and it’s also a contributing factor in why she’s upper moon 5 already.
She’s not under his control though so that’s why the kanji in her eyes are faded.

The Milo Tsugikuni Au!:3
She is the other upper moon 1 (she and Kokushibo are the same situation as Daki and Gyutaro were as in they have to be beheaded at the same time cause they are both upper moon 1)
She became a demon against her will and she hates fighting.
Basically Michikatsu (Kokushibo) wanted Yoriichi to lose what he cared about more than anything, Milo.
So when he was given the chance to become a demon, he took his 14 year old little sister with him.
As stated before, Milo hates fighting so Kokushibo insisted that they be fused together so she would benefit from his energy and vice versa. (is that how it works? idk honestly, im fr just making things up at this point.)
Also, Milo was born with the demon slayer mark like Yoriichi. She created the star light breathing form.
So Yoriichi is the sun, Michikatsu is the moon, and Milo is the stars.
She was the star light hashira in life.
