We'll do puberty tonight, and then first thing tomorrow morning I'll do the formal wear:
Mira hummed as she waited for the elevator to drop her in the apartment. Zoey had texted her earlier to pick up some meat for dinner because Rumi was whining about wanting something for her teeth, and who was Mira to say no?
As the doors dinged open, Mira saw something that made her pause in the doorway. Rumi was sitting on the windowsill, watching the birds. But the way her body was held gave Mira pause. She was too tense, like she was waiting for something to happen.
"Tiger? You ok?" Mira asked, cautiously setting her bags down. Rumi whipped her head around, her pupils dilated like a cats. Before Mira could speak again, Rumi launched herself out of the window and bolted into her bedroom on all fours.
Mira, confused but used to weird things these days, brought her bags to the island in the kitchen where Zoey was sitting. "What was that about?"
"She's been like that for a while," Zoey confided, a small smile tugging at her lips, "She was basically vibrating while we were waiting for you."
Suddenly, their conversation was interrupted by a loud yowling from Rumi's room. Rumi skidded into the kitchen, still on all fours, and jumped onto the island in front of Mira and Zoey. The girls stared at her, and she stared back, locking them into a stalemate.
"Ru?" Zoey asked hesitantly, "Are you ok?"
Rumi continued staring at them for a moment, her eyes still wide. After a few moments of tense silence, a loud rumble filled the room, like an engine starting. The girls looked around wildly before realizing that the noise was coming from Rumi.
"Tiger?" Mira asked, her voice suddenly playful, "Do you want to play?"
Rumi let out what the girls assumed was a happy screech, and launched herself at Mira. They ended up playing with Rumi for hours until she tired herself out and fell asleep. It was Zoey's idea to get her a RC car for when she was hyper, and Mira suggested tying slim jim to it.
Once Rumi woke up and learned of what she did, she was mortified. The girls definitely thought it was adorable though.

OK SO WHILE I WAS EDITING MONKIE KID EPISODES I SAW SOMETHING AND I HAD A BRAIN BLAST. Mainly talking about the demon puberty thing that can be found here but also talking a little bit about canon??? Like how Lady Bone Demon had a lasting effect on MK after Minor Scale??? And I don’t just mean the ptsd like
THIS IS SO CONCERNING????? His eyes flashing blue like that before he explodes with power????? Like the FUCK did that just power him up or is it just me- Was it the stress???
Anyways instead of making a theory post about how LBD has a hold over MK’s mind I’m going to shove that in a box in the back of my mind to think about later.
*CLAPS HANDS* The whole thing about the demon puberty thing is that the monkey kings’ power was really melding with MK, and making him a bit feral as his body couldn’t really handle it. Going so far to make him have physical changes in his body. Sharper teeth, fur, monkey traits, etc. This also gives me an excuse to make a post later on about MK’s purple magic with Macaque but that’s for later.
Now imagine that but now let’s add in a smidge of LBD’s magic, shall we?
heeheehoohoo look at that magic sponge go. I’d figure this would happen after Minor Scale and MK wouldn’t tell anyone about it bc “I’m fine it’s probably nothing” but haha u not fine. There’d be little tells but with no one knowing who Lady Bone Demon is- The Spider crew would probably be the only ones who’d notice. And (looks at episode order) boy does it take a while for them to fight once this happens.
When a young demon grows up and becomes an adult demon. They go through puberty, so poor Preston has two bundles of changes he's going through.
I: Cravings:
Pubecent Demons go through cravings. These cravings go from Hellstone, a stone only found and harvested from the deepest depths of hell (Though Pumice stone could be a good substitute), Raw Meat, Blood, Bone Marrow. Preston's most notable craving is raw meat. He's been caught hunting and eating birds and mice around camp. You shouldn't get in the way of a pubecent demon and their crave foods, you could get seriously hurt.
II: Mood Swings:
Another thing that demons go through is mood swings. It's more like they're prone to having explosive fits of rage, which is more notable in Preston. This could be as a result from wing pain and an overwhelming sense of bloodlust that a young demon could develop.
III: Bloodlust:
Pubescent demons have a bloodlust much higher than a young demon and an adult demon. They finally have the ability to kill things by themselves, so of course, a teenage demon wants to use those new abilities. But, the difference is, they get a sense of bloodlust that is almost impossible to fulfill.
IV: Wing Pain:
Wings grow as a teen demon ages, so their set of wings can carry the amount of weight being placed on them.
V: Horn Pain:
The horns of a demon usually grow, resulting in moodiness, feelings of lethargy, and migraines.
I really like fics where MK gets a little demon-y from using the staff and being imbued with Monkey King’s powers.
I kinda just want a fic that’s a weird magic puberty thing??? Focus on MK but he also gets help from all the non-human characters from the show. Kind of starting with Mei who’s like “yeah I’m kinda a dragon so I get weird magic stuff. Check out my toofies.” And she has fangs MK’s never noticed before. His gums start hurting and oh shit he’s growing fangs- Mei helps him through that.

I want Pigsy making him extra food, making sure he’s well fed bc he’s growing and MK doesn’t notice he’s been eating so much more until Pigsy mentions it off-hand. “What do you MEAN I ate an ENTIRE pot of noodles?!?!?!” “MK you’ve been eating an entire pot of noodles for breakfast every day for at least a month. How have you not- ugh.”
Tang just “????? MK what do you mean you haven’t noticed????? Do you KNOW how many peaches you eat in a day. You liked them before but now it’s ridiculous, you literally have peach flavoured candy wrappers falling out of your pockets. I know this is more of a Monkey King thing than a demon thing, but still???” and he picks up on smaller behaviours, he normally doesn’t mention it if it’s small enough. He does find MK’s developing “collections” concerning, though. Thinking back to Monkey King’s treasure room, he can’t say he’s too surprised.
I want,,, Yin and Jin,,, MK interactions. I just don’t see enough of them. I want JIn and Yin to notice MK’s growing Demon Energy™. I want them to just “huh. mayhaps this is a friend of which may be willing to cause mayhem with.” I want them to be horrible influences. Not bad enough that they’re causing anyone harm but bad enough that they bring out any and all mischief from MK. It’s mainly putting extra pepper in people’s foods, casting minor illusion spells to dress up as different people, and using MK’s clones to prank people. They try to convince MK to go farther with their pranks, both often going on to do their own thing MK often has to put a stop to.
I want main interactions with Sun Wukong to be more monkey-related things. Monkey business, if you will. Just things Wukong would be more knowledgeable about than anyone else MK knows. Since I don’t really know much about monkeys, or JTTW, or what kind of monkey Sun Wukong is, or would be. I’d imagine it would be like this fic. Right here. Click this and read this fic it’s amazing and adorable.
Of course before I move onto Red Son I wanna move onto Macaque. Definitely not someone MK would go to originally. He’d probably be spying on the kid, planning out his next move from the shadows. The battle the kid is currently in is intense but nothing he can’t handle. Not like he cared if the kid wins or loses. Mid-battle something happens to the kid. Something odd. The kid always holds back. He especially holds back when the battle is this mundane. But suddenly he sees the kids’ eyes glow gold. Not like usual. This is uncontrolled. The power its almost leaking from his eyes. The kid shows nothing but a feral rage as he defeats his enemy. The kid is alone. Figuring no one else would do it, he goes and calms the kid down from his power spike. By fighting him, of course. After knocking the enraged monkie kid down a few pegs he watches as the kid shakes, throws up, and lays himself down on the floor. Welp, he’d be a pretty shit teacher if he just left him there and did nothing. So he nudges him with his foot, asks “How you doin’, bud?” The kid groans and fails to get up. Macaque rolls his eyes and takes the kid to his place for a bit. Once the kid is lucid enough to be on guard, he takes his leave. Does he watch the kid more closely after that? maybe. Does he continue to help the kid get a handle on his energy levels before he does something he might regret? No, no. Of course not! He’s just keeping the kid on his toes, is all.
I feel like Red Son, seeming to be the youngest(?) demon in the cast. (I’m not sure it just sure seems that way. :P) would end up getting along a lot better with MK once he notices the changes taking place. He’d be a good confidant along with Mei about this type of things. Once MK starts showing more physical Monkey King-esque traits, I’d like to think Red Son would show him how to hide his tail, ears, etc. for times where he wants to appear more human. Mostly bc I love the HC that Red Son’s got more bull traits than he wants people to believe. I also feel like Red Son would relate to MK a bit as well, in this situation. I’m also a huge slut for redeemed Red Son in fics. (and redeemed villains in general, if you couldn’t tell.) I’d also like if their fights got more friendly, and they’d spar sometimes to get any excess energy that his body couldn’t handle out. (TBH I can imagine Mei getting in on the “Fighting MK when he goes NUTS” train. She’d be a lot more hesitant until she realizes that hey, he’s a lot more durable? Time to go HAM.)
hurhggrhgrhrgrhg something I just thought about while typing this is that????? Hey you know who has experience with turning into a demon??? That we see turn into a demon on screen?????? SYNTAX. I don’t know enough about Syntax in fanon to make a not completely off the charts ooc. But holy shit a friendly interaction between Syntax and MK would be awesome. I know syntax is a huge bitch, though. So I’m not sure how a friendly interaction would work out. Maybe MK catching Syntax at a moment he’s alone. Sneaking up on him and just going “How’d turning into a demon feel?” and Syntax fucking JUMPING BECAUSE WHERE DID THE MONKEY CHILD COME FROM-
