When the overlord Vox announced a grand ceremony at the Vee Tower, Charlie and the others had gone. One part public appearance, another part rescue mission. Lucifer had gone missing, Angel Dust was gone too, and the whole situation stunk of subterfuge. Coronis had fretted when she found Charlie, and reported the King missing in looking for her. Charlie had immediately panicked, but cooler heads prevailed, and she left Coronis with Dazzle, Frank and Keekee (albeit not the most reassuring allies), with simple instructions.
Watch over the hotel, and wait for us.
She did as she was told. Even though the hotel was deserted of all its guests, even with her employer and monarchs absent, Coronis waited. She was glued to the window, watching with squinting eyes at where the Vee Tower could be observed from afar. She didn't trust the TV...not with Vox poisoning every eye that watched him. But she borrowed opera glasses and paced and waited.
And when the first blast pierced the Heavens, she began to feel her anxiety taking over.
The others could only do so much. Frank wrapped his tiny, tiny arms around what he could grasp, while KeeKee and Dazzle nuzzled close. It didn't soothe the panic attack. The blasts were richocheting outside, completely out of control. She didn't know what was happening. Everyone else was in grave danger.
And yet the command weighed her down like a cinder block. Stay and wait.
Even when things grew quiet, she could only sit ashen faced and pale with worry on the couch of the lobby. She had made tea in a futile attempt to soothe her nerves, but it was a very hopeless effort.
What if they all died? She thought to herself. What happens then? Am I to wait here, trying to run the hotel in the Princess's name? What about Lucifer? She scratched at her feathers. There was already a trail of black feathers that had resulted due to the stress scattered on the floor. He's exposed, he's vulnerable. What if someone took advantage of him?
He had done everything to liberate her from her previous existence. It had meant so little to him, but so much to her.
She had no God to pray to. She doubted He would listen. She was a demon after all, and He had decided what fate was due for her kind. But she bowed her head, and prayed to whatever was listening.
Bring them back. Please. She begged. I implore you, bring them all back.
