The Potters
Little Halloween microfic, inspired by The Conjuring 👻😘 Thank @cluelesspigeons for beta reading it 😎
Harry sensed the house was evil. As soon as they stepped inside, his body vibrated in a bad way, the hairs on the back of his neck standing on edge. He kept a polite smile as he greeted the family, though. The poor woman wasn't aware of the ghost behind her, one hand gripping her shoulder like a predator with its prey.
"Welcome! Thank you for coming," the husband said as he shook Draco's hand.
"Your wife told us about some problems with the house?" Draco asked as he looked around.
Harry listened to their story, distracted. Frames had fallen off the wall. Weird smells had been filling the house at night. And every night, at exactly two forty-six, three bangs could be heard echoing around the house. Apparently, the bangs continued until the early hours of dawn. Draco explained his suspicions that the knocks were probably to curse the Holy Trinity and immediately the couple gasped.
Harry wandered further in the house and as he headed to the kitchen, he saw three little girls. They were scared to death, half of their meal still on the table in front of them, almost untouched.
"Hello!" Harry smiled. "I'm Harry. Harry Potter."
"Are you going to help us?" the youngest girl asked, hugging her teddy tightly.
"I will." He nodded. "And who are you?"
"This is Emma, the oldest," the mother, Gina, answered instead, "Stella and Tina are the youngest."
The girls sat up proudly. Harry smiled with joy at them when suddenly the shadow appeared behind the children, more specifically, behind Tina. Though they acted as if they couldn’t see it. The whole family was joking and the children were laughing.
Harry glanced at Draco. "I need some fresh air," Harry said.
"Come back in five. I'm preparing for the interview." Draco sat down on a chair, putting his bag on the table.
Harry took a big breath in as he walked outside, closing his eyes to take it all in. The house felt so stuffy inside. The ghost, the demon, had taken it all. And it wouldn’t leave the family.
His heartbeat didn’t want to calm down. Harry knew he had to help. Even if after many years, after their last exorcism, he had promised himself to never do that again. He couldn’t help it. He had to protect these children.
He walked back inside the house, trying hard to not let the evilness take him, and sat beside his husband.
“Ready?” Draco asked everybody in the kitchen. The children were somewhere else, probably in the living room.
“Whenever you are,” Harry said.
He didn’t know that this interview would be the beginning of a long and hard journey for the family, and for himself. The demon looked directly at him, dark circles under itswhite eyes, saliva dripping from his thin lips as his crooked smile revealed sharps and red teeth. Harry had never seen this in his entire life. The demon was horrible.
They needed to prove it to the church and they needed to do it quickly.
Before it was too late.
