I guess I should start with, no one really understands angels and demons right. We don't talk about it, and angels do talk about it, but only how they're told to, made to. See, an angel isn't given a choice, she hears how she's supposed to think from the Church, from the Scriptures, and with one or two of them, through that little halo thing she wears; they can apparently be a bit like an antenna or something, let you tune in to God's Voice or whatever is actually on the other end of that call. And that's why she does what she does.
Yeah, she can be good, because she was told to be, but you don't ever see how she'd set fire to a building with the same expression she'd wear carrying a granny across a busy street, simply because she was told to.
I was an angel once. I heard the Church's voices over the radio, from the television, and I built my life around it... all until it came time to do it. I hesitated. I thought about it. And I said no.
An angel doesn't have friends. She might have the church, the mission, or the voice of God, but to have friends is a sin. It's to put Humanity over the Church, over God. They know that, if you have friends, if you have social connections, you'll start to empathize, and to think. And if you think, you won't do what you're told to.
Eve and the Apple, isn't it? If you learn what's right and what's wrong, God casts you out. She's afraid you'll look at her with that knowledge.
And then you're a demon. No more God telling you what to do. You're free, and alone, and it's horrifying. You know what's right and what's wrong, and also that you're damned for knowing it. And you look at angels with pity and revulsion, because you used to be her and you know her pain and her fears, even if she isn't allowed to know the thoughts to think about them.
So yeah, why would I ever want to ascend?
