demons//hood
As I walk up to the center of the crossroads, I wonder if I really want to do this. It only takes one minute of remembering that my mother will die if I don't to convince me that this is what I have to do. I begin to dig up the dirt in the middle of the crossroads, setting my box right next to myself. After I finish digging the dirt up, I empty the contents of my box with a photograph of myself, dirt from the graveyard a few blocks back, a black cat bone, and some yarrow, stem and all in the hole. I wait for about ten minutes for the demon to show up, kicking gravel, before I go towards my car to drive home.
"This was a bust." I murmur to myself. "S'ppose not everything you read on the internet is true."
I hear someone walking behind me, and they bump into me.
"Excuse me, ma'am." they say. I turn around, flashlight on, and whisper one word, as quietly as I'm able to.
"Christo." And his eyes flicker to black.
"Ah, I figured it was you. No one else's is around, so I suppose it had to be. Hunter, customer, or someone who figured it wouldn't work?"
"Customer, as a matter of fact. Who's this poor bastard you're possessing?" I ask.
"Name's Luke Hemmings. He was in a band. They're all possessed now."
"I see. And what's your actual name?" I ask.
"That's unimportant. Now, since we're asking questions, who're you?"
"Eileen Frost."
"What're you selling your soul for?"
"I want my mother to live."
"Of course. We'll need to seal the deal, of course. I'm going to assume you know the drill?"
"Yes, as a matter of fact. Ten years, right? Then it's straight to Hell?"
"Are you sure you're not a hunter?"
"Fairly positive. Do we have to seal the deal with a kiss? Can't we do it with a firm handshake?" I ask.
"Sorry sugar, it's custom. Pucker up." He says, a half smirk on his face.
It's only a quick peck, which I'm thankful for.
"I have a feeling I'll be seeing you again." He says. "I'm actually just filling in for someone. Ugh, crossroads are a nuisance." And he disappears, leaving me wondering.
