The Bengals announced their starting quarterback will be out for the rest of the season.

In Colorado, talk of reaching the playoffs started. Why? Lets look at the upcoming schedule for teams in the AFC west.

Based on this info I’ll rank the schedules. (easy to difficult)

Denver (easiest) The only tough game is the Chargers and the Broncos have already beaten them this season.

Kansas City (they play Oakland twice)

Oakland and Los Angeles (The only ‘easy’ game is the Bengals)

If the season plays out in this fashion, some fans will be happy, but it seems like some of the sports media will not be. One particular radio station isn’t happy that the Broncos are winning. They want Vance fired and think the Broncos should tank for draft picks.

The Broncos and the Chargers cannot win the AFC West however. Each team has two wins in the division with two divisional games remaining. Kansas City has three wins already and two of their remaining divisional games are against the Raiders. That puts the Chiefs at five divisional wins and moves the division title out of reach for Denver and Los Angeles.

At the end of the season, Vance Joseph will get an extension. The team has improved over last year and is finishing the season strong. What more could you ask for?

Bronco quarterback comparison

Trevor Siemian, TS, won the starting job competing against Paxton Lynch. He started the season and led the Broncos to a 3-4 record. During this time the Broncos offense averaged 18 points per game. The defense gave up 21 points per game. The winning percentage of the opposition or strength of schedule for TS was 44%.

Since Brock Osweiler, BO, was elevated to starting quarterback the Broncos are 0-2. During this time the Broncos are averaging 20 points per game. The defense has given up 46 points per game. The strength of schedule for BO so far, is 83%. Given the short contract, low pay and strength of schedule, I wonder if John Elway hates BO.

If the rumors are true and Paxton Lynch starts next week, note how lucky he is. The strength of schedule drops to 46%.

Vance Joseph announced that BO will still be the starting quarterback and Paxton Lynch is the backup against the Bengals. TS has been deactivated for this game.

Players started to complain on social media and John Elway called the Broncos soft.

Week 2 Review

The Broncos beat the Colts 34-20. The final score is a little bit misleading in that the offense scored 20 points and the defense scored 14. In the fourth quarter Bronco cornerback Aqib Talib intercepted a pass from Andrew Luck and returned it 46 yards for a touchdown. Later in the fourth quarter, Von Miller got a strip sack and Shane Ray carried the ball into the end zone for another Bronco touchdown.

During the week

There seems to be smoke coming from the locker room. This week, issues were raised about the offense from the wide receiving core. They voiced concerns over the offense in general. I blame the front office for this. I suspect that these wide receivers signed new deals when Peyton Manning was quarterback and the Broncos passed a ton. I suspect they agreed to salary cuts during this time, expecting this style of offense to continue. Their contracts were then modified, probably, in a way that let the Broncos save money if the players didn't meet very specific, performance based, goals.

Peyton is a great example in this case. The Broncos took back $10 million from his salary at the beginning of the year, but by winning the Super Bowl Peyton earned that money back.

Back to this season, these new deals the receivers signed will be a thorn in Broncos side until the offense passes more and runs less. The recievers might be disgruntled employees now. If Kubiak allows this to foster, we could have a locker room meltdown this season. It is early in the season though.

2015 Broncos vs Bengals

The Bengals starting quarterback, Andy Dalton, was out with a thumb injury. Nobody noticed at first as the Bengals led 14-3 at halftime. The Bengals out gained the Broncos by 115 yards in the first half. Mistakes by AJ McCarron, their backup quarterback, helped the Broncos win the game in overtime. The Broncos won by a field goal.

Today’s game

This is the Broncos first road game and Cincinnati’s first home game. I believe the Denver defense is playing great right now. If Kubiak plays a conservative game, look at the Broncos season stats, the Broncos win. Another advantage the Broncos have is the Bengals lost Hue Jackson from last year, the year their offense was tops in the NFL.

The Broncos didn’t face Dalton last year, but he may still be worried about the thumb injury he suffered on December 15 of last year. Especially after he gets hit a few times by the defense. Should be another close game. In the end, the running game and effort by the defense should be enough to slow down their offense and win the game.
