The Denver Broncos beat the Detroit Lions 38-10, but the game was a toss up in the first half.
After the game, a Denver reporter made a mistake and posted that 36 Denver Broncos tested positive for covid. Luckily, that is not true. I couldn’t find any evidence of that number reported elsewhere. The NFL however, is suffering from covid. The Bronco game has not been changed, but several other games have shifted start times. Including the team the Broncos play next week, the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Broncos started off from their 25 yard line. On the first play of the game, the Broncos took the field with just 10 players. The Broncos were flagged for delaying the game, but Detroit played their part and declined the penalty. Sutton came back onto the field to bring the Broncos back up to full strength. On first down, Teddy rolled out to the right and threw an incomplete pass. Gordon galloped up the middle for eleven yards on second down. Then Gordon ran to the left for five yards. On second down, Gordon ran into the line but he picked up three yards. On third down, Teddy Bridgewater connected with Patrick for a thirteen yard gain. On first down, Williams ran into the middle of the line for a one yard gain. On second down, Teddy threw an incomplete pass. On third down, Teddy threw an incomplete pass, but there was a flag on the play. Nickell Robey-Coleman, #31, was flagged for pass interference. On first down, Gordon ran through the left side of the line and gained 13 yards. On first down, Gordon carried the ball to the six yard line. On second and one, Gordon ran up the middle for one yard. On first and goal, with 9:46 left in the quarter, Williams ran right up the middle for five yards and a Denver touchdown.
From the 25 yard line, Jared Goff, #16, tossed an incomplete pass. On second down, Craig Reynolds, #48, ran to the right for five yards. On third down, Goff was sacked by Jones for an eight yard loss. With 8:15 left in the quarter, the Lions punted.
On first down, Williams ran to the left for six yards. On second down, Williams gained three yards over the right side. On third down, the Broncos gave the ball back to Williams and he picked up three yards. Williams ran to the right for nine yards on first down. On second down, Williams ran up the middle for four yards. Gordon entered the game and picked up one yard on first down. On second down, Teddy Bridgewater connected with Fant for a 32 yard gain. On first down, Gordon ran over the right side for three yards. On second and seven, Teddy connected with Patrick for eight yards. On first and goal, Gordon carried the ball down to the three yard line. On second down, Gordon ran up the middle to the one yard line. On third and goal, from the one inch line, with 57 seconds left in the quarter, Gordon ran up the middle for a touchdown. At this time, the announcers pointed out that Denver had run 23 offensive plays, Detroit 3.
From their 25 yard line, with 53 seconds left in the quarter, Goff found Amon-Ra St. Brown, #14, for a one yard gain. On second down, Reynolds ran up the middle for a one yard gain. That play ended the first quarter. After one quarter in Denver, the Broncos led the Lions, 14-0.
When play resumed, Goff scrambled for thirteen yards, but there was a flag on the play. Bradley Chubb, #55, was flagged for offside, but the penalty was declined. On first and 10, Goff found Brown for a gain of 13 yards, but there was a flag on the play. Jones was flagged for offside, but the penalty was declined. On first and 10, Reynolds ran up the middle for a huge gain of 35 yards. On first and 10, Reynolds ran to the right for five yards. On second and five, Goff connected with Kalif Raymond, #11, on a seven yard touchdown pass. With 12:31 left in the half, the score was Denver 14, Detroit 7.
From the 25 yard line, Williams ran to the right for three yards. On second and third down, Teddy failed to complete a pass. The Broncos punted on fourth down.
From the 25 yard line, Goff connected with Tom Kennedy, #85, for a seven yard gain on first down. On second down, Reynolds ran up the middle for a nine yard gain. On first down, Reynolds ran over the right side for a three yard gain. On second down, Goff completed a pass to Brock Wright, #89, for a two yard gain. On third down, Godwin Igwebuike, #35, ran over the left side for four yards. On fourth down, Goff connected with Raymond for a nine yard gain. On first down, Goff connected with Reynolds for a 19 yard gain. On first down, Igwebuike ran up the middle for four yards. On second down, the pass was incomplete but almost intercepted. On third and six, Harris batted the ball down. On fourth down, the Lions successfully kicked a 36 yard field goal. The Lions were closing in on the Broncos. With 6:39 left in the half, the score was Denver 14, Detroit 10.
On first down, Teddy connected with Sutton for a nine yard gain. On second down, Gordon ran through the middle for a three yard gain. On first down, Teddy was sacked for a five yard loss. On second down, Gordon lost one yard trying to run up the middle. On third down, Teddy found the "Big O" for a gain of eight yards. On fourth and eight, with 3:25 left in the quarter, the Broncos punted.
From the 19 yard line, with 3:03 remaining in the half, Reynolds ran to the right side and gained two yards. On second down, Goff connected with Raymond for a seven yard gain. That play took us down to the two minute warning.
When play resumed, Igwebuike ran up the middle for three yards and a first down. On first and 10, Goff found Brown for a five yard gain. On second and third down, Goff decorated the turf with footballs. With 1:20 left in the half, the Lions punted on fourth down.
On first down, with 65 seconds left, Teddy connected with Jeudy for six yards. Then Denver called a timeout. On second and four, with 59 seconds left, Teddy connected with Fant for seven yards. On first down, with 55 seconds left, Teddy found Fant again for seven more yards. On second down with 35 seconds left, Teddy threw an incomplete pass. On third down, with 30 seconds left, Teddy tossed the ball to Jeudy for four yards. Then Denver used another timeout. On first down, with 26 seconds left, Teddy threw an incomplete pass. With 19 seconds left, Teddy found the "Big O" for an eight yard gain. Denver then used their final timeout. On third and two, with 12 seconds left, Teddy connected with Jeudy for seven yards. On first down, with 12 seconds left, Teddy spiked the ball, but there was a flag on the play. Jessie Lemonier, #52, was flagged for offside. On first down, with 2 seconds left, the Broncos successfully kicked a 52 yard field goal. The score at halftime: Denver 17, Detroit 10.
From the 25 yard line, Reynolds gained four yards to start the second half. On second down, Igwebuike ran to the right for a four yard gain and fumbled. Cooper recovered the ball for Denver.
On first and 10, Gordon ran for six yards. Then Gordon ran over the right side for a gain of sixteen yards. On first and 10, Gordon ran to the left for five yards, but there was a flag on the play. The “Big O” was flagged for holding. On first and twenty, Teddy connected with Jeudy for nine yards. On second down, Williams carried the ball to the 10 yard line for a five yard gain. On third and six, Teddy connected with Williams for a Denver Bronco touchdown. With eleven minutes left in the third quarter, the Denver Broncos led the Detroit Lions 24-10.
On first down, Goff was sacked for a nine yard loss. On second down, Igwebuike ran up the middle and lost three yards. On third and 22, Goff completed a pass to Josh Reynolds, #8, for a 20 yard gain. On fourth and two, Goff’s pass was batted down by Jones.
On first and 10, Williams ran to the right for five yards. On second down, Williams ran to the left for five more yards. On first and 10, Williams ran up the middle for nine yards. On second down, with 6:45 left, Gordon ran up the middle for 14 yards and a Denver touchdown. The score was now Denver 31, Detroit 10.
From the 25 yard line, Goff completed a pass to Wright, a tight end screen to the left side, but he fumbled and he was ruled down by contact. Vic challenged the call and lost the challenge. On first and 10, Reynolds ran up the middle for seven yards. Harris was injured on the play #96. On second and 3, Goff’s pass was batted up in the air and caught by Taylor Decker, #68, for a two yard loss. On third and five, Igwebuike ran up middle for three yards. On fourth down, Igwebuike ran up the middle for four yards. On first down, Goff connected with Brown for a nine yard gain. On second and one, Goff had all day to throw or scramble for the first down, but he attempted a pass and it fell to the ground, incomplete. On third and one, Reynolds ran up the middle for three yards. On first down, Goff tossed another incomplete pass. On second down, Goff connected with Brown for a nine yard gain, but there was a flag on the play. Holding on Ryan McCollum #74. On third and 11, with 45 seconds left, there was a flag on the play. False start on Taylor Decker, #68. On third and 15, with 30 seconds left, Goff connected with Brown for 11 yards and that play ended the third quarter.
On fourth and 4, Goff found Brown again for 19 yards, but there was a flag on the play. Sterns was flagged for unnecessary roughness. On first and goal, Igwebuike picked up six yards, but he fumbled as he ran into the end zone. Denver recovered the fumble. The Detroit player was ruled out of bounds. On second and goal, the guard stepped on Goff’s foot and the quarterback fell down for a three yard loss. On third and goal, Goff threw an incomplete pass. On fourth and goal, with 13:20 left in the game, Goff completed another pass to Field Turf.
On first down, Gordon tested the middle of the line and lost one yard. On second down, Gordon ran to the left and gained one yard. On third and 10, Teddy scrambled in the end zone before throwing an incomplete pass. The Broncos punted on fourth down.
On first and 10, Goff found Josh Reynolds for a gain of 13 yards. Then Goff connected with Shane Zylstra, #84, for four yards. On second and six, Reynolds ran up the middle for eight yards. On first and 10, Goff connected with Brown for six yards. On second down, Goff’s pass was intercepted by Simmons.
On first down, Teddy connected with the “Big O” for 16 yards. On first down, Williams ran to the left for a one yard gain. On second and nine, Fant picked up five yards. On third down, Williams ran up the middle for six yards. On first down, Williams ran to the right for 8 yards. On second down, Gordon ran up the middle for three yards. On first down, Gordon ran over the right side for four yards. Detroit called a timeout. On second down, Gordon tried to run over the right side, but he lost one yard. Detroit called another timeout. On third and seven with 4:09 left, Teddy connected with the “Big O” for a five yard gain, but there was a flag on the play. Jeudy was flagged for holding. On fourth and three, the Broncos decided to go for it. Teddy Bridgewater connected with Jeudy for a 21 yard gain. Detroit used their last timeout. On first and 10, Gordon ran to the left for ten yards. On first and goal, Gordon ran up the middle for five yards. That play took us down to the two minute warning.

On second and 3 with 25 seconds left, Goff tossed the ball to Reynolds for a two yard gain. On third and one, from the Denver 30 yard line, Goff’s final pass fell incomplete.
