Key to my Heart (open starter)
Okay, so maybe she’s drunk one too many cups of cappuccino - maybe even more. Three, four, six cups…? Just how many deciliters, maybe even liters, has she consumed of that oh-so-sweet caffeinated liquid…? Haruko distinctively remembers almost spilling the milk on her biology report while trying to open another carton of milk to make more cappuccino. Yeah, that meant over a liter of cappuccino entered her system in the past couple of hours.
The phrase “couple of hours” was the understatement of the century.
Somewhere between furiously ripping paper after paper and listening to the annoying scribbling sound of her mechanical pen against the paper had she realized it was way past four in the morning and that she spent over 48 hours in a row trying to word the results of her research correctly. Bathroom and food breaks included. And only after she stared at the old grandfather clock in the corner of the study for roughly ten seconds and let her glasses slide down to the bridge of her nose did a string of loud, heavy curses slip out of her mouth as she shot straight up from her chair almost knocking over her entire table in the process. Oh fuck, she had to wake up at eight o’clock sharp tomorrow and it was already four am and she still wasn’t asleep. Fuck.
In a record time of one minute and forty-eight seconds, Haruko managed to collect all of her books, writing utensils and the twenty-something papers lying around the table and stuff them into her bookbag and arrive in front of her room’s door. Sore digits reached out and grabbed the doorknob and twisted it, expecting the door to open with a click and a creak but she was greeted with silence and a locked door.
Haruko raised her brows. Didn't she usually leave her room's door unlocked...? Weird. Her fingers slid from the doorknob and dived into each one of her pockets in search for the key but that too was a fruitless effort.
"Oh, for the love of..."
A deep, deep sigh escaped the biologist's mouth before she did a 180 on her right foot and plopped down on the floor in front of her door. Legs crossed, fingers tangled in her hair and a frown appeared on her lips. Lovely. Just lovely. Four am and she was stuck outside of her room with a heavy bookbag and the clothes from Friday on her.
To top it off just like whipped cream on top of strawberries, a loud boom reverberated throughout Hope's Peak that made her flinch and not a second passed before she heard the rain hitting one of the hallway windows, staining the glass even further, making it almost impossible for the moonlight to pass trough.
Haruko just sighed once again and prayed that someone - anyone - would pass by and take pity on her. But it was four am on a Sunday, surely no one was awake at this ungodly hour, right...?
