Of course you don't. The entire idea of abstaining was that you could pretend this didn't involve you. Not getting blamed was more important to you than doing any kind of damage control, more important than protecting any of the people you said you wanted to protect. And in this moment, I don't really care what you want. Of course, this isn't entirely your fault. Of course other people made this worse. But if you're going to pretend you had nothing to do with this, forgive me if I ignore you.

okay so the thing is;

these wildfires- which are on the other side of the country from me;

are still terrifying;

they are doing so much damage. the amount of air pollution that they are putting up are near volcanic levels. I’m thousands of miles away but I live in the same GODAMN bubble.

I’m not going to pretend this doesn’t affect me.Even if it ads one more thing to the pile of shit that I can’t do shit about.

Look, I'm pretty fucking sick of America's bullshit, and I'm not sure how much it can be improved or how recognisable it would be once that happened, but I recognise that the "I love my country and I hate to see it like this" people who stand beside me at protests are my allies in a way that pessimistic "burn it all down" people on this website are not.

Back from another protest, and once again I find myself thinking about the people who were there. Because, once again, we had "Fuck you and your nationalism." people standing and chanting side-by-side with "I love my country more than anything and that's why I need to save it." people.

And the thing is, on Tumblr especially, you find a lot of sentiment to the effect of "If you don't agree with me about what we should do and why we should do it, you're part of the problem." And that's just not helpful. We're gonna need the people who are extremely patriotic but fighting for change if we want that change at all. In fact, we're probably going to have to work with people much worse than that. Working towards improvement is always going to be better than being ideologically pure, which is good, because being ideologically pure is straight-up not going to happen.

One more fucking reason to love A.I.--it's using so much electricity it's raising the cost of electricity.

The article tries to sound neutral about it, but it does sort of cough and say, "Hey, you know that thing? Remember what it's been doing to the water supply? Same deal." as politely as possible.
