DepthJS Updates
I am currently working on a non-touch gesture based interface to news and social media sites. This is part of my dissertation in computer science at University of Liverpool and part my research here in the Journalism School at UNC Chapel Hill.
A few guys in the Media Lab at MIT wrote DepthJS (source) that allows JavaScript to interact with Microsoft Kinect. This makes navigation webpages as easy as a flip or swipe. Last week I used the technology to navigate my website, the NYTimes and ESPN in front of 450 high school students who loved the demo. Moving forward, I will be testing various user interface designs (and creating my own) for use with motion tracking sensors for news, information and social websites to create a guide and best practices for presenting content using this emerging technology.
Developers: There were some errors with the Depth JS Chrome plugin since Google Chrome changed a lot of things in the latest version. I have made the changes and submitted them for pull into the master but until they do, you can work from my fork on GitHub.
