Man, I am unhelpfully preoccupied with these two.
So hope we get a second season…
Watched first two episodes of Department Q last night.
I'm confused--how long until Matthew Goode's character turns out to be a gay vampire?

Quick summary
🔸️ Challenging 7-month shoot but loved it and very proud of that they have achieved.
Virgin Radio got lots of messages from people saying they love the show and had to binge watch it.
🔸️ Car's car is perfect for his character – ramshackle.
🔸️ He watched a rough cut of Dept. Q a while back but won't watch it again. "If you keep looking back you trip over your vain shadow."
🔸️ He prepared for the role by talking to ex policeman and person with PTSD. The show is an homage to these frontline workers and their mental health.
🔸️ You had to be really prepared on the shoot because Scott could suddenly decide on the day to film a particular scene if the location was available.
🔸️ What he learned from Anthony Hopkins shooting Freud's Last session with him : you can be a genius and humble. And that he himself is good too - Anthony gave him the confidence to trust himself. Anthony has messaged Matthew saying he loves Dept.
🔸️ He can be a scaredy cat occasionally. His wife and others encouraged him to take on the role of Bob Evans in The Offer.
🔸️ Recent watches: he has been watching Simon Reeves' Scandinavia and a documentary about John Williams.
🔸️ Dept. Q series 2 - We won’t find out for a month or so, based on worldwide viewing figures etc. There will be a gap of at least a year because Scott Frank has another project on.
🔸️ Matthew had a year off after finishing shooting Dept. Q. He keeps choosing projets that are going down, it's really a funny time for the industry. His wife wants him out of the house! His dog has lost weight with all the walks lol
🔸️ He has not been able to play much golf - bad meniscus in left knee, he doesn’t know if he will ever be able to solve it 🥺🥺

Matthew Goode in Dept. Q (1x01)
It's that time of year again... Because who doesn't love a good Christmas movie?
One thing that Dept. Q season 1 does incredibly well is showing change by juxtaposing beginning vs. end in an incredibly meaningful way. There are many such examples, and one is this:
Carl getting on the lift to go down to the basement.
1x01 - Carl is a 100% done. With everything. His life is fucked, he's convinced it's his fault that his partner and best friend is paralysed and wants to kill himself and he wants to while away his remaining days as a detective by doing as little actual work as possible. He is despised and eschewed by everyone and he just... doesn't give a fuck. About anything. (Well, except Hardy and Jasper.)
The sigh says it all.
1x09 - Carl has just solved a major case, saved a life no one thought possible, has rekindled his best friend's will to live, despite all odds has assembled a team he actually likes and cares about, has acquired newfound respect with colleagues and has found meaning in his work again.
The tiny little hopeful smile says it all.
I love this show so much. ♥️
