Few Derby Updates:
1. GUESS WHICH BITCH PASSED HER SCRIMMAGE TEST AND IS NOW DRAFT ELIGIBLE? (surprise, it me) 2. I'm playing a bout with the other new skaters who've also passed their tests against another team of new skaters on Saturday, and this is the most anxious/nervous I've ever been in my life. Especially because I know they're gonna make me jam. A lot. 3. I fell super hard on my back at scrimmage tonight and bonked my head on the floor. Everyone is reasonably certain I'm fine and don't have a concussion (I was cleared by a medical person), but I have a bit of a headache and I'm lowkey freaking out. 4. I already pretty much know which team I'm gonna be drafted to and I'm a little disappointed. But whatev. At least I'm gonna be on a team!
Derby Diary
A few cool things... 1. I GOT CLEARED FOR CONTACT!! I honestly thought I wasn't going to be cleared because my plow stops are trash, but I was! Meaning I can participate in contact drills at all practices. We've started practicing basic hitting and it's been so. much. fun. 2. I got to try my hand at jamming for the first time tonight, and OH MY GOD I'M IN LOVE. And more than that, I was actually good at it!! One of the other skaters even commented on my footwork, saying it looked awesome. GAH! It was such a confidence boost. Especially after falling a bunch in the blocking drills. Based on these two accomplishments, I'm actually thinking I might be in good enough shape to be drafted come fall (assuming I'm able to pass the scrimmage test). I'm actually letting myself get my hopes up a little.
Derby Diary #7(?)
So I forced myself to go tonight (even with the impending 27/5, after being off skates for two weeks) and... Things were not as bad as I was expecting! I was a little disappointed in my 27/5 because I did much worse this round than last (18.5 as opposed to 22, whomp) but I did fall pretty hard halfway through and twisted my ankle a bit so that impeded my progress. I'm also struggling with doing crossovers while going at top speed. I can do them okay while going a bit slower, but I think I have a mental block about doing them while going fast for some reason. BUT I did an awesome job with our paceline drills, footwork, stops and tomahawk-ing, so that was a huge plus. Not too shabby for two weeks off. Hoping to go to a team practice tomorrow, if my muscles allow for it!
Ugh
Been off skates for two weeks due to a cancelled practice and real life obligations and now I'm scared to go tonight because I feel like I'm going to be on the ground for most of it blaaaahhhhh. It doesn't help that we're doing 27/5. I'm gonna die.
