When Sorry Won't Fix a Whopper Mistake
When Sorry Won’t Fix a Whopper Mistake
We have all made that one serious whopper mistake … the one that haunts us even years later ….
“How could I have done something so dumb?”
Mine came while in was in Coeur d Alene on a sales trip. I still remember the spring morning, sitting at the desk on my laptop before heading out to visit my customers, when I realized that I had forwarded a faxed order to one of my vendors that that exactly…

6 Month Check In
I thought it’d be a good idea to do a 6-month check in since the year is already half over and that makes me SUPER sad. Anyway, here goes!
Goals
Animation - I have actually seen an improvement in my animation! Studying has been paying off but I’m not working on anything personal yet. Hopefully soon.
Blog - I think I’ve definitely been more frequent. Consistency is still a little tough.
Book - Book 2 still needs to be finished. It looks better and better every day but there’s still so much work left to be done.
Comics - I completed a lot of original drawings so far, the sketch covers have not moved yet... I need to get past BronyCon first.
Convention - I made my 5 convention goal already! Well, I’ve tabled at 3 and I have 2 more confirmed. I’m on the waitlist for a few others and awaiting confirmation for another 2, I think. Yes! I love meeting goals.
Crafts - Crafting has been at an all-time low and this does make me sad. Lots of work going around, that’s all.
Education - I said I was going to write reviews to keep myself accountable and I have not done that. DERN! I’ve watched and read quite a bit too. I can do a master post of these things instead. Just to prove progress. Not sure if I’ve made it to the 5 books just yet though. I’ll check.
Original Work - I’m still in the midst of developing my graphic novel but every month I have been chipping away at it. I want to get through the remaining tasks and try to complete the whole thing this year though. I owe it to myself. There’s even more I would love to do but I think the graphic novel is a good start for me.
Store - I’ve gotten some work done on a couple of lines. No new prints as of yet. Time is awful. But I will be ordering new product soon regardless. The RedBubble shop has a few designs in it now and Etsy is stocked with originals for purchase. Progress, even if it isn’t the goal.
So of the 9 goals, several are in progress and ONE has been completed. It’s not amazing but it’s not too bad either. I don’t know if I could say that I had done as much last year or even the year before.
These kind of check-ins are really helpful and important to me as a reminder of the good things I am doing. It’s so easy to get lost in the woods or compare yourself to everyone who seemingly has the life you want. But using that as your inspiration instead is a more productive and positive use of your time and energy.
Finally I’m going to leave you and myself with Derek Halpern’s video 7 Secrets of Wildly Successful Entrepreneurs where Derek says my favorite line “What got you here won’t get you there”. I’ve worked really hard to get where I am right now but in order to get to a better position and in order to do what I really want, I need to work both smarter and harder than I have before.

What I’m learning as I grow my virtual assistant business
As I grow my business, I’m running into a challenge that I know other entrepreneurs run into: how do I grow my business?
What I’m learning right now is this:
How to connect with others online.
Meaning, the importance of going beyond the research: actually picking up the phone and calling people who I could potentially work with!! This has already gotten me a few clients.
Learning
The lesson is, NEVER stop learning! Because I’m a bookworm at heart, learning new things is something I've always considered to be a strength of mine. I cannot even begin to count the number of times that I have been given a project (when I worked at a corporation), and was given instructions to, “Can you just figure out how to make this happen?”. It’s served me very well over the years. It’s why I’m able to offer the different services that I do for my clients.
How to build my business.
Oof, this is tricky. And, I know it’s something that many others struggle with too. I realized today after watching a video from Derek Halpern (Social Triggers) that I was still honing in on my audience. So, in honor of the assignment he provided....
Here’s my client wishlist:
Conscious, communicative entrepreneurs who have built companies that enhances other people’s lives. They see the value in getting assistance when they need it, and are willing to pay for that help.
What I offer to all of my clients, no matter what business they’re in is this:
PEACE OF MIND
My clients know that their job will get done, on time, and completed as if they had done the job themselves (or better!). Don’t take my word for it, hop on over to my testimonials section (it’s still growing) and read it for yourself!
As I continue to grow my virtual assistant business, I will share what I’m learning along the way. And if it’s working, I’ll be sharing that too!
To all of us and our success,
Monica
