Let’s take a moment to remember Derek the vampire. Now, Derek the zombie.
The poor guy. When we first met him, he was a naive, clueless young guy, obsessed with sex and vampires. Goofy. Sweet. Using his mom’s catering van to drive his other clueless friends into a danger they are unprepared for. And of all of them, he’s the one who is left behind and bitten.
Without a sire, he has no damn idea what he’s doing and thus winds up before the local Vampiric Council and its co-leaders, Nadja and Nandor. Thankfully, the very guilty Guillermo saves his life but promptly forgets about him.
And when next we see Derek, not much has changed. He’s the most pathetic vampire ever, working in a gas station and pining for a pal. Guillermo invites him to Nandor’s wedding and The Guide spins him on the dance floor but no one has any use for him until Guillermo has the bright idea of paying Derek a bagful of money to turn him. Of course, the sweet, inexperienced vampire says yes and well, we know what happened.
All that money and all Derek spends is $270 on attire from Hot Topic. All that money and he pulls up to the Hav A Nap in a Ford Pinto. All that money and all he wants is to belong.
And now, he does. He’s been welcomed into the fraternity of Wallace’s group of zombies. He has a place now with like-minded flesh eaters.
So, here’s to Derek the zombie. You are home now.
In S3 E5 guillermo made a point dueing dereks trial that i just realized, technically lazlo has vouch for any and all of dereks behaviour since his trial (even though they kind of forgot about him, its still binding under their council authority) and i hope they play into that in the next season, nandor being a little bitch baby about lazlos charge taking his bestie familar from him and being lazy with his charge
