Trust is a tricky thing for Derek. At this point in his life, it’s not something he gives very easily anymore.

There are two ways Derek would verbally express complete trust in another person. One: Flat out saying “I trust you”. That’s harder than saying “I love you” for him, and that’s pretty difficult as well. Two: Telling them something about his childhood or about his family. It’s not something he opens up about often, so if he does, it’s important.

Stormy days are Derek’s favorite. The constant patter of rain and light rumbling of thunder help drown out the silence that’s normally surrounding him and helps him keep from getting lost in his head like he can tend to do a lot.

He tends to like spending those days curled up on his couch with a book and a cup of coffee, reading with the comforting sound of the storm. If it’s not raining too heavily, he even goes out on runs through the preserve sometimes.
