.......sometimes talking with the bestie about the bs Church People have put her through makes me wanna belt Some Gods Deserve Atheists. -.-
Favorite New Songs of 2023
“Boys Will Be Girls” by Derek Webb with Flamy Grant
“In Your Love” by Tyler Childers
“Last Train to Nowhere” (Acoustic Version) by Ghost Hounds
“Ghosts Again” by Depeche Mode
“Sweet Sounds of Heaven” by the Rolling Stones with Lady Gaga
I found myself listening to these songs over and over again in 2023 – and watching the videos, all of which are awesome.
....I find a great deal of Derek Webb's "The Jesus Hypothesis" album relatable but I'm kinda stuck on these lines from "Some Gods Deserve Atheists" rn.
"When you were young
Hypothetical sin
Was all that you'd done
It was so simple then"
So........ this would imply having a generalized view of sin nature but *not* believing every other move you make is fucking up???? That was not my personal fundie-adjacent experience!
Critics Condemn Derek Webb and Flamy Grant’s Drag Visibility
Did you hear that two men in dresses attended Contemporary Christian Music’s (CCM) 54th annual Dove Awards this month? Don’t worry: they weren’t nominated for anything. They bought tickets and sat in the public sections.
Conservative Christians are horrified at the audacity.
“I’m literally speechless,” claims Skillet frontman John Cooper (who didn’t attend the awards show this year), as reported by Jesse T. Jackson of ChurchLeaders and ChristianNewsNow.
Jackson goes on to directly quote 539 words, along with a summary of more of Cooper’s long-winded rant. The article on ChurchLeaders is un-ironically titled, “‘I’m Literally Speechless’ — Skillet’s John Cooper Addresses Drag Queen at the Dove Awards.”
Cooper certainly has a lot to say for someone who is speechless.
This was my first time hearing the two songs in this article, “Good Day” by Flamy Grant and “Boys Will Be Girls” by Derek Webb. Both songs are so damn beautiful they made me cry. In the video for “Boys Will Be Girls” it feels like Derek Webb is channeling David Bowie’s “Boys Keep Swinging” in a sacred space. I am in awe.
A worship leader called Flamy Grant's duet with Derek Webb a sign of the end times. It then shot up to the top of the iTunes Christian chart
Lemme start by sayin’ that I love you
Maybe even more than before
I know your face but now I see more of you
So much beauty just behind the door
You invited me in
Believe it or not, the hardest is behind you
Saying who you are and what you need out loud
But this great gift, it’s always gonna haunt you
Like a good ghost pulling you from the crowd
To places you have never been
Where sometimes boys will be girls
Sometimes armor will be pearls
What you put on oh, it shows the world how hard you’re fighting
Brother, somеtimes boys will be girls
You know, they say thе greatest revenge is a life well lived
So the loudest fuck you and greatest gift that you could ever give
They are one and the same
‘Cause sometimes boys will be girls
Sometimes armor will be pearls
What you put on oh, it shows the world how hard you’re fighting
Sister, sometimes boys will be girls
Oh, boys will be girls
I heard Jesus loved and spent his life with those who
Were abandoned by proud and fearful men
So if a church won’t celebrate and love you
They’re believing lies that can’t save you or them
‘Cause you’re so beautiful by any name
(Boys Will Be Girls by Derek Webb, from The Jesus Hypothesis album)
"Maybe you gotta betray what you love the most to find out if its really real or if it was just a ghost"
