If you have sensitive skin you will benefit from a tailored skin care regime, this post also applies to my post laser patients. If in doubt, please consult with your designated nurse or #dermaltherapist as to the timings & sequence of #skincare actives . . 🔬Skin Science: Skin sensitivity is super common. Causes include #rosacea, #eczema & even #acne. In many cases it can be due to combining the wrong #skincare actives &/or not respecting your skin’s threshold. Post laser patients will also have sensitive skin . . ✅Vitamin B, also known as #niacinamide is well tolerated skin active. Vit B is a versatile active that reduces skin inflammation (ideal for irritated/sensitive skin), as well as improving the skin’s barrier function. Vitamin B also modulates skin dehydration, improving the moisture content of skin . . 🧐 Vitamin A:: Retinol-retinoids build #collagen, decrease #acne, improve enlarged #pores, & skin pigmentation. The flipside is that vit A can be irritating, especially in higher concentrations, for sensitive skin - start with niacinamide, or vitamin B . . 🍊Vit C or #ascorbicacid is a potent #antioxidant. VIt C is a powerful free radical scavenger mopping up collagen degrading molecules caused by UV rays & pollution. VItamin C can also promote collagen, & reduce unwanted skin pigment. The downside with Vit C is that the most active formulations are somewhat acidic (pH 2.5-3.5). This may cause inflammation & #angryskin in sensitive skin patients . . 📋In summary, titrate your skin care if you suffer from sensitive skin. A well thought out skin care plan can allow you to achieve your goals . . 🎬Action: For a guide as to skincare, contact my team @cliniccutis Our #dermaltherapists & nurses will tailor a program for your skin type . . 😎Davin’s Protip: For sensitive skin, less is more. Start slowly with vitamin B, then add a well formulated low concentration #retinol. An example is 0.5 Retinol from #obagi. Sensitive skin patients should initially avoid ‘acidic formulations’ such as vitamin C & skin acids such as #lacticacid & #glycolicacid / #AHAs. Most dermatologists advocate lasers over #chemicalpeels in patients with sensitive skin .
