The end of the day quickly approached, the sun setting on the kalosian horizon. Colors feathered across the waves like paints upon canvas. Laughter danced into the sky, as two friends walked along the beachfront back to whence they came.
“I can’t believe you won the competition! The dive after the ball was rather brave.” Reshi exclaimed. She recalled watching him and others on the sand tossing the ball back and forth, a strange structure in place that they followed. Placing the pieces together had proven difficult, yet she was sure that Zapdos has pulled some bold stunts.
The thunderbird laughed a bit, day changing to night as they both crossed the portal back into their own universe. “Well I couldn’t very well let the other team win! Rayden was counting on me, if I let him down what lind of friend would I be?” He gave her a wide grin, static sticking his hair up in odd places.
Reshi stopped for a minute, the brush ticking her feet. “…Probably not a very good one, huh?”
The silence was warm, comforting, yet thick. Wind guated through the trees, the faint sounds of land rumbling in the distance. Guilt settled in her throat, worming it’s way into her heart. She knew what she needed to do.
“I think…” she started. “I think I’m ready to go back.
“You don’t have to, you know.” Zapdos replied, voice getting soft. “That was like, half the night training and half the day having fun. You could take a nap you know.” Something fell in the distance, the wind growing in strength.
“I..” Her voice faltered, exhaustion evident. “I would love one but…”
Footsteps slammed against the ground.
“Ahem.” The two legends froze as a large shadow encompased them. They slowly turned to see the frustrated, and tired, face of Landorus. “My Lady. Thunderbird.”
Zapdos cursed under his breath, Reshi avoiding his gaze.
“You mind telling me where you two have been?” His voice was firm, fiercing and shaking them to their core.
“None of your buisness.” Zapdos replied quickly, earning a harsh glare.
“Oh, I’m quite aware you had something to do with this. I’ll deal with you later..” He rounded on his goddess quickly. “And you, I had hoped better of you. If you have any hopes of saving this region from Zekrom then you’d better put your skills to the test instead of lazing about with friends. This is no time for levity, damn it. Team Plasma is making their move and you’d prefer to host parties and mingle rather than acting with the strength the region needs!”
Reshi shrunk into herself, any flames of the fun day smoldering out quickly. Landorus turned to leave.
“Honestly. You want the truth?!” he yelled back over his shoulder. “Zekrom was a far better leader than you ever were. It was a waste of time thinking you could be any different.”
He stormed off quickly, leaving the other legends alone.
Zapdos gritted his teeth watching the hulking lion’s receding form. “I’d like to see him out his money where his mouth is.”
