Yasu slowly walked across the dancefloor, there, she saw an ogre lying on the ground. She saw blood, but as drunk as she was, she gave it little to no attention. She carefully stepped away from the blood and made her way through the dancefloor.
It was crowded, everyone was yelling and it was a mess. She could care less, she needed to go to the bathroom. She pushed a few people out of her way, trying to squeeze through the crowd. Finally coming out, she was still a bit far from the bathroom.
It was so difficult for no reason, she remembered why she didn't drink.. all of her senses were blurry and useless. She hated it. Why.. why, WHY. She finally reaches the bathroom and walks to the sink. There, she opened the faucet and let cold water run for awhile.
She carefully splashed some water in her face, making sure not to ruin her makeup. She could feel a jolt of energy through her as the cold water touched her skin. She dried her face and then re-applied some lipstick and mascara. Looking at herself once again in the mirror, she felt confident to head back.
She walked out of the bathroom and then made her way to the tables to go eat.
Thrown aside, she watched in horror as the ogre was decapitated. A girl came over and bandaged her, but she didn't notice much. Quietly, she sat in place. The words she spoke to Derp prior to the promenade rang through her head.
I hope I’ll see you at the Prom!
What a stupid wish. It'd be best if he hadn't come. It'd be best if she hadn't come. It'd be best if she never accepted that prom proposal.
Stupid. Stupid stupid stupid. Stupid.
If she hadn't come with that duo, maybe Derp would be okay. If she hadn't been late, maybe Derp would be okay. If she chose to dance with Paytel, maybe Derp would be okay.
If.
If only she picked the right choices. Why couldn't she protect anyone? Why was she so stupid? She wanted to help people. She wanted to protect people. The results? Avriana died because she made Cyniel. She saved Nekyu, who, without a doubt, killed more people. She couldn't protect Derp.
The world around her dulled. Unpinning the roses on her dress, she walked over to Derp's corpse, whatever remained of it, and placed them.
"I'm so sorry." She said quietly.
Stumbling over to the table she was assigned, she sat and stared at the food in front of her.
Rushing over, she watched as the events unfolded. Derp had retaliated-- almost rampaging-- in response to her date's actions, whatever they were. There was blood pouring from the ogre, which she could only assume to have been a result of the elf's actions.
Moving in front of the elf, Mistreil blocked his path to Derp.
"Please stop...!" Though she wasn't sure if it was a good idea to leave Derp as he was, she hoped he would regain his senses. He was so sweet and kind...
“W-Wha--!!” Pulled down by her date, Mistreil instinctively tried to grab onto something-- this ended up being an elven girl. ‘D-dangerous!’ she thought, as she noticed the girl was holding a drink. Her other arm moved to grab the glass, hoping to prevent its fall.
Looking at the elf, she noticed it matched a picture she had received earlier of her next dance partner. “S-Sorry! I-I’m sorry!” Apologizing profusely, her face became a mix of embarrassment and mortification. “Y-Yuujin… right…? I’m sorry!” Turning her head, she saw Derp on top of her date. He was furious.
“S-Sorry. We’re partners for the switch, ha.. ha… I-I’m sorry.” Apologizing profusely to Yuujin, worry spread through her. Asking Paytel’s brother to calm down wouldn’t work-- he’d probably only get more irritated. She could try to pull him away forcibly, but if he was also a milletian, she might not be able to do it. First… she should probably get Yuujin away.
Pain.
Trying to get up she felt a pain in her leg. Pushing it aside, she looked at the green haired elf. “U-umm…! W-We should…” A nervous smile appeared on her face, “Er… Would you like to dance…?”
(( I'll be posting the rest, with both Yuujin and my parts -- it's sort of long, so read more ahoy! ))
Yuujin immediately tried to reorient herself from being grabbed and almost literally floored. She looked down at the red-haired, dainty girl who had fallen in front of her, and her….train of accomplices. When she realized that this girl was looking for her, she became flustered. “Oh, yeah. I’m uh, I’m Yuujin. Hi. Hello. We can dance if you’d like.”
“Smooth, Yuujin. This is why Mangoo ran away from you…”
Yuujin set her cup of punch down and turned to face the now standing red-haired girl, who seemed interested in leaving the immediate area….immediately.
“So, uh….shall we go?”
“Thank goodness she accepted.” Taking Yuujin’s hand, Mistreil paused for a moment. She wasn’t used to leading in a dance, but considering the situation, she probably had to. She’d only ever practiced the lead a few times, since Laima assumed that her partners would be males, or at the very least, that she wouldn’t initiate. The few times she did lead was when she was with Cyniel, and even then, the times when Cyniel would agree were scarce. “... I wonder where he went…?”
Still, Yuujin seemed somewhat confused-- either by the situation at hand, or at the idea of a waltz. “I-I’ll lead, so… don’t worry.” She smiled nervously, pulling Yuujin away from Derp and her date. If something happened, at least the elven girl wouldn’t be caught up in it. Pain stung at her leg, but by now she was decent at ignoring the pain. Dancing was enjoyable, anyhow, and though she remained extremely concerned about Derp, she figured Pide would probably just chew his ear off. Slowly making their way from the crowds, she noticed Paytel, a little distant from Yasu and, who she assumed to be, Yasu’s partner for the switch.
“Please… for once… please let this event pass without anything terrible happening. Please, gods.”
Yuujin grabbed Mistreil’s hand in confusion, having never waltzed before. Mistreil smiled politely again, and began to lead Yuujin in a couples waltz. They slowly meandered around the dance floor and Yuujin’s eyes wandered around the Prom, looking at all the people. She noticed Goo talking to Yasu, while looking somewhat flustered, and noticed….one of Mistreil’s dates, the elves with the pastel hair. She couldn’t tell them apart, they were doing that thing twins do where they wear similar clothes, ugh. The one she happened to keep glancing at was the one in white, who was part of Mistreil’s “entourage” of sorts that had fallen in front of Yuujin a while ago. “Given that this Mistreil chick seems really high-strung, you wouldn’t think she’d hang out with those elves. That one in white definitely seems to be….irritable.”
“Hey, uh, that elf in white you were hanging around….what’s his name?” Yuujin simultaneously wanted to know just to satisfy her curiosity, and so she would know his name to avoid him post-prom.
“... U-um…” Oh. Oh no. She still didn’t know his name, and she didn’t expect anyone to ask. This was awkward. This was very awkward. Looking back at the elf, she grew more concerned. Was it really okay to leave him alone? Paytel’s words reappeared in her mind.
"Sorry if I had scared you earlier. My brother will do nothing at prom as long as I’m keeping an eye on him. And… if I’m not… then you will be there for him, yes?"
“I-I’m… not actually sure.” Laughing nervously, she looked back at Yuujin. They seemed a safe distance now, and she had a terrible feeling. Paytel wasn’t near him, and she had left to make sure Yuujin was safe-- maybe that was just an excuse for her own exit though. Paytel. Paytel was nearby, though. He could stop his brother. She wasn’t confident in her own abilities. But should she interfere with whatever Paytel was doing? Wouldn’t she be berated for leaving in the first place?
“Y-You know what? I… I think I’ll go make sure everything’s okay. I’m really sorry, u-um… I-I’m sorry! I’ll make it up to you-- somehow-- eventually? A-And! I-if you see Paytel-- t-that’s the elf that’s dressed in black, u-uhh… the twin… And if he’s not busy, please… let him know what happened…!” Panicked, she curtseyed and ran back, pain still eating at her leg. She had left Yuujin relatively near a group of people she was looking at, which included Paytel.
“Coward,” her thoughts taunted her, “Why did you run away in the first place? Because you were worried about Yuujin? What if something happens to Derp? What if something already happened to Derp? Go back! He’s killed people-- why did you think it would be okay to leave him alone? Because you forgot Paytel wasn’t watching him? Why? Why do you have to be such a coward? Why do you have to run away from everything? Why do you always have to rely on other people?”
If Cyniel were still around, he would’ve told her to stay near the elf. He’d have known that she shouldn’t have accepted a promenade invitation from someone she didn’t know. He knew everything. All she had was her stupid kindness, her stupid assumptions that everyone was good, her stupid naïveté.
The laughter she heard grew slightly louder, and she noticed Nekyu had approached. Her smile faded, and the butterfly knocked her forehead a few times before flying off. Derp was probably scared and trying to get her to leave as well.
(( will add links tonight, but for now: read more ahoy! ))
'Haha! He's like a pathetic dog or something. How revolting~' The other Mistreil giggled, contrasting the thoughts forming in the girl's head. What should she do...? Nekyu was, at the very least, able to function again-- about as much as the drunk Acorn, anyway. If she didn't feed him, he might attack others. Xero was the closest, so he might be in danger. On the other hand, if she fed him and he got a lot stronger, as he did in the previous festivity, he might hurt even more people. And this time, it didn't seem as though Alil was anywhere nearby. She bit her lip and glanced at Xero. She was the one who 'healed' Nekyu, so she was responsible for him at this point.
"... You should go look for Derp and make sure he's safe," she smiled weakly at Xero. "I... I'll take care of Nekyu. H-hopefully, everything will be okay. Oh... And Derp's body... We should probably get him back in it or... move it or something."
Stepping over to Nekyu, she patted his head lightly, holding out her arm. Scary. She didn't like being hurt.
"Nekyu... Please don't hurt anyone. I-I'll let you eat a bit, so..." she muttered, bracing herself for pain.
'... I don't think asking him to play nice will work, princess. You should really just ditch him. Ditch the party. You'll just cause trouble, no matter what you do.'
(( you know, luring him away from the party is probably the better idea, justice girl. >¦[ ))
“You’re preeeetty you know that? I could just…kiss you!”
Mistreil looked behind Xero, at the drunk elf.
"H-huh? T-thank you...?" Flustered, she stared as Acorn walked off in a seemingly drunken stupor, "You shouldn't--"
"Can you keep a secret?"
Her head turn to face the man again, slightly confused. She watched as light emitted from the dead ogre, from which a butterfly spawned. Bewildered, she watched as it floated around her.
“I think he quite likes you.”
Smiling slightly, she lightly stroked the butterfly with her finger, "Oh...? Ehe... I'm honoured. Hello, Derp!"
She could only assume that it was a piece of Derp, though she might be wrong. Either way, it put her at a bit of ease, thinking that a fragment of the kind ogre remained. Amidst the seeming calm of the ball, she could hear a faint thudding sound and a peculiar laugh. Looking around, a few others had also re-entered the ballroom, though she couldn't quite tell where the faint noise was coming from. Were other party goers also drunk like Acorn...?
(( hah plot twist, i wasn't talking about thudding from nekyu at all. maybe i'm talking about the furious party that's being held in the washroom. ))
"Hrrrng? I’m ooook! I just wanna sleep now though…..are you oook? The incubus eats people? Awesomeeee."
Mistreil watched Acorn curiously. Was she... drunk? Slurred speech aside, most people wouldn't call 'eating people' awesome. Though, she wasn't one to talk, having tried to save Nekyu's life. Following Xero inside, her eyes began to wander, darting back when Xero spoke.
“Niña, could you get her something to drink? She is probably dehydrated.”
"Huh...? Oh! R-Right!" It seemed as though he didn't seem to mind her reasoning, which was reassuring. Keeping the truth wasn't the best idea, and she should introduce herself properly eventually, but...
'He'll just go and shoot more lightning. He played hero for Leniea and we saved Nekyu. I don't know about you bu~ut I wouldn't unless he asks.' He had a point. The less fighting that happened, the better. She wasn't quite sure how to explain it either.
She grabbed a cup of punch and returned.
"I-I uh-- Hm?" She tilted her head and took a look at what Xero was doing. There lay Derp, bloodied. "D...erp...?"
Her grip on the cup tightened. Was he dead? It looked like ice had collapsed on him. Placing the cup down beside Acorn, she began trying to heal the ogre, to no avail.
(( will put links and stuff whenever i get home or at some point. red head squad has discovered: bloody ogre ))
"While... Mistreil, I think, does have a point. I have no idea on what crimes he has commited, other than what has been said here. I would be for his freedom rather than his death. But if you want him to stop killing, maybe you should have kept a closer eye on him."
Mistreil's gaze dropped from Nekyu and the elf as she watched... the werewolf? Approach her-- no.
"A...corn...?" Beside her was Acorn, bloodied. She seemed injured from the collapsing structure, but was carried away by the wolf and placed by a wall. Soon, she noticed Xero had approached Acorn and took care of her. Thank goodness. Hopefully, Acorn would be okay.
(( more writing more long post hhhhhh read more ahoy ))
"Even if... Nekyu hurt people, or even Derp. Doesn’t mean you have to hurt him, or kill him. An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind. Mama Derp used to say that when some one did something bad. Move on and learn. Past... Past happened but so can change. Doesn’t mean it will. But how to be sure if you don’t let future happen? If you think it ok to kill Nekyu, then… You no better then him! He no respect life, and you don’t either."
Mistreil smiled slightly as she watched Derp walk off. Fortunately, it seemed as though people stayed roughly on the same side as her, which was reassuring.
“But whose to say this won’t happen again?” Another person spoke.
“Even if he does keep an eye on Nei, it’s possible that he can kill more people, somehow. He sounds like a horrible person. Mister, if you think he’s that much of a threat then… kill him. But you know him better than any of us, the choice is yours. Only kill him if you think he deserves it and is irredeemable.”
'At least someone has a brain. It's obvious that he'll just repeat things and kill people.'
Mistreil bit her lip. It was true. He'd likely kill more people. But that wasn't something set in stone. She looked back at Nekyu and the elf... who was... crying?
"I… Can’t… finish him anyway…. Even if I wanted to… Nei… I know you’re lonely… and that’s my fault… But I know whether I was here or not, I can not change the way you live. I… can’t kill you now… but I know you will kill again and again, and nothing you could do would ever fix your past. You aren’t even capable of feeling regret for any of it are you? You don’t care… The only thing going on through your mind right now is the here and now. I can’t… do it now… but one day it has to be done… and all of you will eventually see this."
They seemed close. She didn't quite grasp everything, but they seemed to be very close-- but then... why would the elf leave Nekyu? He seemed to care for him. It didn't make sense. She watched as the elf walked away, and as Nekyu grabbed onto his legs.
"NO!" A distorted voice came from Nekyu.
"…I… Will keep a close eye on you Nei. You will see me again."
'... Clinging so desperately. Pathetic.' The other Mistreil murmured hypocritically, falling silent shortly after.
Mistreil approached Nekyu as the elf left, and saw Lieke pass the crying incubus a knife. Was he going to lash out...? Or hurt himself? Either way, having the knife wasn't a good idea. She placed Nekyu's hand down, taking the knife away. Nekyu was still injured, so she couldn't imagine him doing much... Oh. Would he die from his current injuries...? She had difficulty feeding him prior, since he seemed to be too weak to even move his mouth. Pulling out her dagger, she made an incision on her art and let the blood seep into Nekyu's mouth. Hopefully that would suffice.
Nekyu seemed fond of the elf. Was he lonely? Being left alone, clinging to the person who tried to kill him... Did he love him? Did he depend on him? The elf seemed to care for Nekyu too. The situation was confusing. Mistreil had been 'killed' by her sister, and that hurt, but she knew whatever Arcelle did was for her own sake. Was this situation similar? Did it hurt Nekyu to watch the elf leave?
'... Isn't that obvious?' The other's voice muttered. Was it? She couldn't completely understand. Sitting by the incubus, she used her other hand and pat his head. If the other Mistreil was right, then his heart probably hurt. It didn't make his past actions alright, but still, being alone was painful.
(( what's that, bluestreil? pity? empathy? for the record he's just sort of in mistreil's consciousness. losers the both of them.
