In 1981 professor of psychology, Ellen Langer conducted a study of septuagenarians in which they were taken to an environment and surrounded by the atmosphere, accommodations and mementos of their earlier era. The results ranged from improvement in mobility to floods of memories as in better brain cognition. It is claimed that many of her experiments were published and peer reviewed however I cannot find any sources to quote. To me, this would be considered all anecdotal stories but, she also pushed the importance and effectiveness of the placebo effect (which happens to be something I always joked about to when it related to physical, measurable results - Rogain: a certain percentage of men showed signs of hair growth on the formula, a percentage did not, and the control(ish) group that was given a placebo also showed a percentage of hair growth! So taking nothing can also grow tiny, weewee peach fuzz). Back on point; I like to surround myself with cool things from my era of the 1970's. These little creations are inspirational to me because either I owned them as a youth (rarely), or I was envious of those that could afford them or just saw it on a commercial or in a comic and imagined having it. I also like to put myself in the mindset of the company and artists that created these toys. How did they settle on this representation of the subject? What were the board meetings like? It's the sort of thing I think about when I eat food, all the people along the way that were a part of the processes. So, here are some things that help keep me feeling younger and fortunate.
